This monitor is not the first generation produced by Panasonic, and it shows. I have read several professional reviews (good source is plasmatvbuyingguide.com) and this one is the favorite.
First picture quality: I ran it first with a VCR as a TV tuner (this is about the poorest input you can imagine) and the picture is just great. It got better with the satellite box input, and DVD is better yet. I did not try HDTV, but that is supposed to be the top in picture quality. Remember: this is a monitor. There is no TV tuner, so the signal needs to come from somewhere else.
Unlike a TV, it also does not come with speakers, but who would spend this kind of money on a monitor and not invest in a surround sound system?
The one drawback I can think of is a very minor hum from the unit's fan. Regular TVs don't have that, but it is barely noticeable.
Installation: you need to get a wall bracket or some other kind of stand (Panasonic makes about half a dozen.) The wall installation I used is very solid, and the effect looks very elegant: a floating high-tech painting. A handyman can do this in less than an hour.
Value: This seems to be by far the best plasma value on the market. It gets the best reviews and goes for the lowest price. If you shop around, you should be able to get it for less than $4,500.
