happyuser_dt3000's Full Review: Panasonic DMR-EZ37VS DVD Recorder / VCR Combo
Really bad software design on this thing and it's full of glitches. I bought it new in a box but as a clearance item, if I had paid regular retail I'd have taken it back by now.
Pros: 1. Feels very solid. Metal case. 2. Recordings are excellent. 3. LP mode (4 hour) recordings are 704x480 not 352x480 like most units.
Cons: 1. Has to be off to record. 2. Can not record DTV on to VHS. 3. The info display randomly pops on screen 4. No "zoom" or "wide" to deal with letterboxing. 5. Non-standard DVD formatting may prevent playback in other stsandalone and DVD-ROM units 6. "VP" record speed on VHS incompatible with other players. 7. No still frame advance (that I've found) 8.You can not pre-program more recordings that will fit on the blank disc you have inserted ( planning to swap in a new one later) In other words you can't pre-program a weeks worth of recordings in advance unlesss you limit it to 8 hours or less and set the record speed accordingly. Major annoying if you are a Power Time Shifter. 9. It responds very very slowly to remote commands and easily locks up if you get too far ahead. 10. Rather weak tuner. 11. Very limited DVD to VHS dubbing, will not copy finalized DVD-R or DVD R. It reads them as DVD-Video and assumes they are copyrighted. 12. Takes a long time to do the initial set-up. You can not add channels, you must start over. Will not allow you to manualy tune to weak stations it does not auto-detect.
