mrpragmatic's Full Review: Panasonic DMR-EZ485VK DVD Recorder / VCR Combo
Based on my experience, and seeing what others have written, this product is a lemon, and that's why so many are being offered in the "refurbished" condition. I bought mine at http://www.refurbdepot.com, and luckily did buy the extended warranty because after six months it basically quit working altogether. (Actually, it was pretty much problematic from day one, but I just didn't bother to return it immediately, knowing I had the extended warranty anyway.)
The device conceptually offers a lot, and I was excited to receive it. I was wary, since it was "refurbished", but wanted to give it a shot, in hopes that it would be in workable condition, having been "refurbished." But, like the infamous Ford Edsel, this machine offered too much, and in reality provided too little.
Additionally, I question whether Panasonic ever actually did anything to the machine that would constitute "refurbishment", short of repackaging it and marking it as such! As I mentioned above, it worked quirky from the beginning, but I attributed some of it to perhaps my not having taken complete time to fully read the manual. However, as I would find over time, reading the manual only provided more frustration, as I learned that the device would not operate as well as the manual would lead one to believe.
Seriously, do NOT buy this product! I predict you will experience mostly frustration and disappointment. But, if you decide to anyway, get the extended warranty. My feeling is, you will need it!
