Pros: Excellent video quality, fast way to archive tape to DVD
Cons: User manual sucks (who wrote this thing). Basic editing
The Bottom Line: Stores selling Panasonic and Phillips all seemed to recommend the Panasonic DMR-HS2 for best picture quality...I think they were right.

Easy way to archive those home videos to DVD before they deteriorate. Incredible picture quality. Flexible recording automatically adjust bit rate to best picture based on available DVD space.
I have a total of 87 (yes 87!) family videos. So far I have archived 16 tapes (DV/Hi8/SVHS/VHS) to DVD in 4 days-- with OUTSTANDING results. Never would try that with my PC DVD editing system. Now I have "permanent" master DVD's that I can use later to create edited DVD's for handing out to family.
When I get done with the heavy archiving, I have a cool supplement to my TiVo. Not only that it is also good at time slipping.
Too cool!
