Pros: MP3-CD support and inexpensive for the progressive feature
Cons: no aspect ratio control, remote is not really intuitive
The Bottom Line: The excellent picture quality, MP3-CD support, and low price are hindered by the complicated user interface and lack of aspect ratio control. Certainly worth considering.

| aarondahl's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-RP56 DVD Player |
I was attracted to this model particularly because of the Panasonic reputation - I have always been more than satisfied with their televisions, and VCR's. The progressive playback and the MP3-CD support were additional benefits, and the low price was what lead me to eventually purchase this model. As with the other Panasonic components, the user interface is somewhat confusing - it is not intuitive like Sharp, JVC, or Sony. I was not aware of the lack of aspect ratio control until after I had it set up (this means that DVDs will play in letterbox with the black bars at the top and bottom) - at first, I thought I just couldn't figure it out, but then I determined the unit does not have such a control - its because of this that the PV56 gets only 4 stars. It is still an excellent deal - consider going with the 5 disc version if you are not into MP3s.
