After buying two different cordless phone sets (GE and VTech) down at Wal-Mart in one week and being totally irritated with each, I went to Amazon and got the Panasonic KX-TG1033S three set cordless phone package.
Finally - a phone that does what a phone should do!
The problems I had with the other two sets were that they had loads of static, and it was hard to hear on both ends. I couldn't half hear what people were saying, but I could sometimes tell they were asking me to repeat things. No good - that.
The Panasonic phones are crystal clear. In fact, sometimes I think I've lost the connection. Not static at all. "Are you there?" Yes. Just like talking in person. Also, the volume is fine. I don't have to strain to hear, and I do have a slight hearing loss. No problem with the Panasonic phones.
This is a three phone set. There's a base unit and then two more phones that plug into regular wall plug holes. This is nice, since I have an older home with only two phone jacks total. Now, I just need one for the main unit. No problems running to another room to get the phone or to find the one that was put goodness-knows-where by one of the boys.
There's a built in answering machine which actually works - unlike the AT&T phones I had that were not compatible for the answering machine and with Time Warner as the provider. So, I need to call Time Warner and cancel that voice mail service now that it's working with the Panasonic phones. That will save a little money monthly.
There's a light the comes on when there are messages. You can't tell how many. Also, I think the limit on time is 16 minutes or so. That hasn't been an issue. I just check it when I see the light.
Another huge plus is that the Panasonic phones use rechargeable AAA batteries. The last two cordless phone sets I had used random battery pack things. They were not for sale around here. They had to be ordered at Radio Shack. If the battery wasn't the issue, well . . . too bad. That's a racket. I like that Panasonic went with normal batteries and ones that can be recharged.
The size on these phones I find nice. They are just a tad longer than other cordless phones I've owned and feel more comfortable. The buttons are a little bigger with the writing more vibrant. Now that my close up vision is not like it used to be, that matters. The phones still look modern and sleek, but they are more user friendly for those of us who like to see what we're pressing.
You get a few extra features. Frankly, I like a phone that is a phone that is a phone if you know what I mean. This one does have speaker phone, three way, alarm and so on. They sent out a headset jack and belt clip.
Hey. I'm at home. I just want to pick up the phone and call or get a call and also collect messages when I'm gone. So, things like that built in phone book is lost on me. I have a little address book for all that, and when a phone dies, I do not lose all my information. Yes. I'm old fashioned like that.
I did read up and check the features. All work fine. I just don't get pumped up about that kind of stuff.
What I needed and wanted was a set of phones that worked, and that's what I got. I can see what I'm doing. I can hear the other person, and they can hear me. The extra units are nice, and I love the batteries being standard and rechargeable.
Great job Panasonic! Maybe you should contact Wal-Mart and tell them to carry your phones, because those other two sets I got there were awful, and I returned them. I'm glad I did, because it's frustrating to have bum phones, and it's really great to have a set I like now.
