We live in a single family ranch home. We've used cordless phones in the past but found that many of them would not reach the 100 feet or so from one end of the house to the other (we also have a brick fireplace in the middle of the house that tends to block the signal). This Panasonic model phone solves the coverage problem and provides a variety of attractive features we like. It works great for us. It even covers our 1/3rd acre yard.
The Panasonic KX-TG93xx comes is 2 model variations with between 1 and 4 Handsets in the box, the last digit of the model number indicates home many headsets are supplied. Additional Handsets are available - up to 6 can be used.
One handset charges in the base unit and the others each have their own charger base. Additional handsets come with their own charger bases.
The KX-TG933x model has a base unit with answering machine, but no ability to make calls from the base. The KX-TG934x model base unit has the ability to make and answer calls with the built-in speaker phone.
The handsets all have the capability of controlling the complete system, configuration options, answering machine, etc. As the handsets are registered with the base unit they are assigned a handset number (from 1 to 6) which is used for the included Intercom feature.
Each handset also has a built-in speaker phone and standard headset jack for hands free operation.
Many of the features we find most usable require that you have the Caller ID Feature turned on by your phone company.
Even thought we registered our phone number with the national do not call registry, we still get an annoying number of telemarketer calls. We've found that with the phone's features, we can identify and block many of these pests.
The Talking Caller ID function is quite entertaining. With this feature turned on a computer synthesized voice announces who's calling you on or about the second ring. It's hilarious to listen to the mispronunciations.
One handy feature is the shared phone book. You can store up to 50 names and phone numbers in the system's memory. This phone list is shared across all the handsets. You can also store up to 20 phone number that you want the system to block. If a blocked caller dials you, they'll get a busy signal from the unit before it hangs up on them.
The main things we don't like about the phone have to do with the bright light on the top of each handset. When head off to bed, we have to take the bedside phone off its charger so the light doesn't shine in our eyes.
The interface to the phones plethora of features is also unintuitive. To access many of the other features and functions of the system, you need to enter an arcane code. For example, the phone has an alarm function that you can activate by entering the four keys: [menu] [7] [2] [0] and then selecting from among a variety of options including the time you want the alarm to go off. Included are some pretty useless prerecorded messages like: "It's time for dinner".
In summary, this is a very useful phone, with good performance. It's quirks are minimal.
