Pros: Very Compact Size. Good picture and sound quality. Remote. Firewire connection. Color viewfinder.
Cons: Buttons hidden behind LCD panel. No USB connection. No Memory card.
The Bottom Line: Good camera. Has a lot of features that cameras of equivalent price do not. I think that it is a good camera for a good price.

I really liked this camera. We just picked it up since our first baby is on the way and we haven't been disappointed. The small size is really nice, and the LCD screen is still a good size. It is still light enough that you can carry it all day while hiking and not feel like it is a twenty pound dumbell strapped to your hand. The color viewfinder may use a little more battery life, but I think that it is worth it. The battery will last for about two hours of recording. I haven't played with it enough yet to know exactly how long it will last on playback with the LCD screen, but I expect it to be about 1-1.5 hours. The camera does take digital pictures, which are recorded onto the miniDV tape, rather than on a memory card. As with most video cameras, the quality of the digital pictures is rather poor. I have a good SLR camera, so this wasn't a concern for me. If you want good digital pictures, buy a digital camera. Don't expect a video camera to be as good. The camera does have a "Nightshot" function that is supposed to enable the user to take pictures in the dark. Where I live it is light out until 11:30 pm this time of year, so I haven't played with this feature. My only problem with the camera is that the buttons are hidden behind the LCD screen so you have to have it open to do your playback. You do get a playback remote so that when the camera is hooked up to a television you don't have to have the screen open so it is not that big a deal. There is an S-video output, as well as a "firewire" connection and the usual RCA plug style connection. I have done some digital editing on my computer with it and it comes out looking great. The camera uses a lot of on-screen menu features in order to conserve size. This was a little confusing at first, but it soon made sense and was easy to navigate. One of the on-screen functions that is nice is wind noise reduction and zoom microphone. I use my camera a lot outdoors, so this is nice. You can hear what people are saying from a reasonable distance and there is very little wind noise to interfere. All in all, I would definitely buy this camera again. Especially for the $600 Canadian that I paid for it.
