| likestech's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-LV50 5 in. Portable DVD Player |
This is my favorite. The only downside to this Panasonic DVD portable player is the price. It costs too much. But, when you get over that or if you get one as a gift, there is much to enjoy.
This DVD player is small, but do not underestimate its capabilities. It is a much better DVD player than the entry-level players you buy for your home system, and this portable player can be connected to your home entertainment system and perform quite nicely as your main DVD player.
When I am on the train or plane for a two hour trip, I just pack the battery; no need for the cord since the battery lasts for 3 hours. I can watch a movie and, if I am still bored, play a CD (or CD-R! Yes, this DVD player plays CD-Rs, most DVD players don't) on one battery charge. How does Panasonic get this must charge into one battery? Beats me, but the battery's weight may have something to do with it. It weighs about as much as the player does, which I figure is about 2lbs; the total weight, including battery, must be about 4 pounds.
The LCD screen is brilliant. It delivers great color rendition and screen details are not lost to darkness, which may be the case with other portable players. If you care to compare this machine in a store put is up against a good quality television screen and you will still notice why flat screen LCDs really deliver on clarity. True, this is an unfair test since the LCD screen can out perform typical television screens because the LCD screen can match a DVD's aspect ratio of 16:9 as well deliver the lesser 4:3 aspect ratio of television sets.
This Panasonic can be connected to headphones to give you a more private viewing or you can use the built-in speakers (don't). A remote control comes with the player and it's easy to use and helpful when you are using the player to run your home entertainment system. In addition, you get Dolby Digital AND DTS decoding, surround sound, three ways to view your movie (wide screen, letterbox or stretch), and all sorts of inputs and outputs, including S-Video, audio/video, and headphones.
