| nojmplease's Full Review: Panasonic RC-CD600 Clock Radio |
For the holidays, my mother had hinted that she wanted a new clock radio for her bedroom. A few years ago she owned the Nakamichi Soundspace 3, which was a great sounding 3 piece unit (2 speaker/clock units + 1 subwoofer) that we purchased for almost $300. Anyway, the Nakamichi broke, and she was stuck using a junky Sony CD radio for the past year.
I checked around the Internet for suggestions as to what to purchase as a replacement gift (as the Nakamichi has been discontinued). I stumbled across a few interesting items (Tivoli Audio, Sharper Image), however none seemed to have the features I wanted nor at the price I felt was appropriate. Finally I came across the Panasonic RC-CD600, and the reviews on the Internet seemed to be overwhelming in favor. I got a great deal on it through Panasonic Refurbished products, and when it came I was anxious to set the unit up.
The unit was slightly larger than I had imagined, but it seemed the perfect fit for my mother's bedroom. Gone was the annoying yet crucial subwoofer unit that the Nakamichi had, and the connections between the two units were clean and easy to set up.
I turned the stereo on, put in a new CD, and I was instantly astounded at the quality. I could not believe that the crisp, deep, and rich sound that I was hearing was coming from a clock radio! Volume controls were great, the included remote was useful, and everything seemed to fit the package very well.
The alarm was easy to set, and it can be conveniently shut off from either unit (perfect for a queen or king size bed!). My only qualm was that there is no clock on the secondary unit, but the display on the main is adequately large.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend this product to anyone in the market not just for a clock radio, but even for a stereo system for the bedroom or possible office. Although there are no available inputs, the CD/FM/AM combination is managable for most audio use.
