| capstone2000's Full Review: Panasonic SA-HE200 6.1 Channels Receiver |
Pound for pound, you're not going to get a better receiver for the money. After I purchased the SA-HE200K, hooking everything up to it was very simple....everything from the banana plug connections to the optical inputs. The surround sound features will take some getting used to, though after that, it was second nature. A novice at receivers will probably have some difficulty understanding what is what. The manual was decent, but could have been written a little better. The sounds are excellent, coming from the Technics front speakers to the rear Bose AM5 speakers.
I've pretty much always been a Panasonic/Technics fan, but I've purchased this receiver primarily because of the tape monitor and the phono input. You'd be hard pressed to find any of those features on most new receivers nowadays. Not to mention that fact that it got some kudos from a popular consumer mag.
I haven't played around with it enough to really find anything that would be deemed "wrong" with it. I can tell you though, that the slide cover on the remote is annoying to say the least. But what irritates me the most is the fact that I can't adjust the bass and treble when it's in surround mode. Sure, you could adjust the subwoofer level to modify bass, but I don't have dedicated subwoofer (yet), but the front speakers do have pretty good base response. I would prefer that option over the cute but useless SFC modes.
Although you could get a Denon, Harman/Kardon, or Pioneer ELITE that sounds much better (mainly due to dedicated amplifiers for each channel, verses only one amp for the Panasonic), you would also be paying $2-300 more for it. For the money, you just can't lose with the SA-HE200.
