grunion's Full Review: Panasonic VIERA TC-32LX85 32 in. HDTV TV
I just bought this as an upgrade to our old RCA 27" projection for the upstairs and so far I must say we are delighted. We have a Samsung 42" DLP projection TV for the main family room TV and I think the picture quality on this is even better. Seeing as it is only 32" the fact that it supports a maximum resolution of 720p is not an issue - 1080p is indistinguishable at this size anyway.
I bought this TV for considerably less than what the retailer was charging for other major brands. But besides the price, what drew me to this television and away from the Samsung or SONY was its extra HDMI port and standard video ports that are accessible from the side. I am tired of having to get dirty moving the TV around every time my kids want to connect a new game device or if I want to connect my video camera. The side inputs make it a breeze to hook up new devices on-the-fly. I only wish they had thought to add a headphone jack there as well.
I was also pleased to note an SD card slot, that I presume I could use to view pictures or videos from my camera. I haven't tried this yet but I think it will prove convenient.
The Sharp and Toshiba models also had side access ports but when I compared the picture quality side by side in the store, this one was just clearer and had truer colors.
The television has a stylish black, glossy frame and a hidden speaker underneath. It has bright, vivid colors and an easy-to-navigate menu system to change basic settings like picture, input, audio and such. It sits nicely in the corner of the room, unobtrusively, and provides a great quality picture.
Setup was a breeze. It was pretty light so I could carry it upstairs and set it up on the shelf without help. As soon as I was able to select the correct input (the "quick start" didn't include this step) I was able to get my TiVO/DVD combo's picture piped right through.
I suppose if I had a complaint it would be the remote. I would hope for something a bit more ergonomic, that could control other components, or with backlit buttons. As it is, it is functional but nothing special. But that's only a minor complaint as I'll be mostly using the Tivo or cable remotes anyway.
