Pros: Protects hair from heat, so you can blow-dry with it on. Gives a strong hold.
Cons: The hold was too strong for me.
The Bottom Line: I'm sure there is a way to make the root lifter work. But, for those who aren't experienced with hair products, I would say try something else before using this.

| amidd49's Full Review: Pantene Pro V Volumizing Root Lifter Spray Gel |
I can't say that I am well experienced with hair products, but I can say I know a good product when I use it. I'll admit am sometimes easily swooned by advertisements. Pantene ran some sophisticated ads of women with voluminous hair, and they seem to be playing up the volume campaign lately. Getting volume at the roots is the hardest for me, as my thick, long hair weighs it down. When I heard of the root lifter, I decided to give it a try.
The suggestions are to spritz on the Root Lifter while your hair is damp or wet, and blow-dry and style as usual. I often put my hair in a small pompadour with bobby pins (which doesn't look as dorky as it sounds), so had to make sure my roots were standing up well done. The heat applied was no problem - my hair was not damaged at all. The problem was that just a light spritz made my roots rock hard. And it really didn't do much in terms of volume - it just felt like I slapped hardening gel and left it there.
Pantene also suggests to use a round brush while blow-drying, with hair upside down. After doing so, I realized it just made roots indent inward.
I don't really see much to this product other than serving as hold. And there are many other better hair products solely made for a good hold that could probably do an even better job.
