Sometimes I go on hair product binges. For a while now I haven't been using any styling products, but decided I wanted to try and add a little volume to my straight hair that tends to go limp. I found Pantene Root Lifter Volumizing Spray Gel for a very decent price of $3.99 at Wal Mart, and figured for that price it was worth a shot.
~ Product Description
The packaging tells us that Pantene Pro-V Root Lifter Volumizing Spray Gel is for fine to medium hair that lacks volume and height, and where you want to add lift and long-lasting volume. This light-mist spray helps to:
- lift flat hair, even in high humidity
- provide body and a healthy-looking shine
The directions for use say to apply to wet or damp hair. Lift sections of hair up and spray product directly on the roots. For greater volume, spray liberally all over hair before styling. Dry thoroughly while hair is flipped upside down. Pantene includes a styling tip: To create more volume while blow-drying, use a round brush to lift hair up from the scalp. While still holding the hair upwards, use the cool shot on the dryer to set hair.
This comes in a 5.1 fl. oz. plastic spray bottle, which is shaped nice and compact, and is easy to hold. There is pull-off cap that covers the nozzle.
~ My Experience
As I mentioned, I have fine textured, straight hair, that tends to go limp and doesn't have a whole lot of body. After shampooing as usual, I let my hair dry naturally for a bit until it was just damp. Then I sprayed Pantene Pro-V Root Lifter Volumizing Spray Gel near the roots first, lifting up sections as I went, and then I spritzed a little more all over my hair. I noticed the spray is a nice, fine spray - not at all gel-like really - and was easy to control and apply. It had a nice enough scent, that was noticeable yet not overpowering or heavy. I can barely smell it in my hair now after an hour or so.
I blew-dry my hair as usual, but I didn't flip it upside down or use a round brush, I just kind of tousled it with my fingers as I used the blow dryer, then used a curling iron to finish styling. Where I hadn't brushed out my hair, I could feel the spray gel had a stiff feel on my hair. If I brushed those spots, the stiffness would go away. But by not brushing and just using my fingers to style, I got some great texturizing effects. And yes, this definitely added volume and lift to my hair. It didn't feel sticky, my hair didn't feel heavy or weighed down, and it had no greasy kind of feel in my hair.
Did it add shine? Well, nothing that I could really notice. But the volume was there, and I loved the texturized look as well. My style lasted pretty much all day. Even before bed after I brushed out my hair, it still had extra volume.
~ Final Thoughts
Pantene Root Lifter Volumizing Spray Gel really works to add texture and volume to fine, limp hair. And the price is right! Give it a try.
