Durability:
Pros:inexpensive, adaptable game,
Cons:boring
The Bottom Line: Not one of India's finest and they could have kept this game.
I recently bought a double game set from Avon. The first game being Clue and the second being ParCheesi.
After I wore the kids and hubby out on Clue, I thought we could try ParCheesi.
Object
The object of Parcheesi is simple. Be the first to move all four of your pawns from the starting position to the home position.
Pieces
Each game comes with the following pieces:
Gameboard, 2 dice, 4 sets of 4 different colored pawns (16 total), and 1 dice cup
Set-up
The set up is fairly easy. Each player chooses his color and then places his colored pawns in his Start Circle.
All players roll both dice and the highest roll gets to go first.
Playing Instructions
Each Pawn must be entered before it can start around the board. Before entering the pawn, the player must roll a 5 of either a two die combination ie 4 +1(=5) or by rolling a five on one die.
If the person does not roll a 5, he then may use the number rolled to move his pawns that have already been entered and are already on the playing field.
Once the pawns are entered, the player has the option of whether to move one pawn at a time or two pawns. He may move a pawn for each die rolled or move one pawn the total number of spaces. Only 2 pawns may occupy the same space.
*Doubles*
When doubles are rolled, the player gets to roll again.
Captured Pawns
A pawn is captured and returned to 'start' when one player lands on a space occupied by another player's pawn. The captured pawn being the pawn that was on the space first. The exception to this being if the pawns are in the safety spaces, or on their home paths. These spaces are safe and pawns can not be captured here.
The Winner
The winner is the first person to get all of his pawns home.
This game is for 2-4 players. The ages listed are from 7 to Adults. Having an 8 year old and an 6 year old, I can safely say that this game did not begin to hold their attention and both children dropped out of the game before it barely began. While hubby and I did play a bit longer, this game was never finished and no one has asked for a game of ParCheesi since.
My family, and myself included found this game to be extremely boring and long.
I give this a rating of 1. I think India could have kept this game.
