| tiffer0220's Full Review: Parker Brothers Star Wars Episode II: Attack of Th... |
Maybe if I knew a thing or two about chess....or perhaps paid more attention to Star Wars, I would be able to master this game. But since my only chess playing experience was in the 3rd grade when I was forced to play chess with my teacher because I had a broken arm while all the other kids were playing on the playground.....Let's just say it's a time I'd like to forget... Anyway....
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
My 10 year old son has been playing chess for quite a few years now. Don't ask me who taught him because it sure as hell wasn't me. He is also a huge Star Wars fan, so when he received this chess set as a gift, needless to say he was delighted.
This set includes 32 hand sculpted chess pieces and your chess board. The chess pieces are actually pretty neat and I must say I am impressed with the craftsmanship that went into these pieces. Like any chess set, you have 2 colors. Theres silver playing pieces and then there are bronze playing pieces. The silver pieces are the good guys, or the force and the bronze pieces are the dark side guys. My son had to teach me that one.
Contents
With the silver pieces you get:
8 Clone Trooper Pawns
2 Mace Windu Rooks
2 Anakin Skywalker Knights
2 Obi-Wan Kenobi Bishops
1 Padme' Amidala Queen
1 Yoda King
Bronze is as follows:
8 Geonosian Pawns
2 Super Battle Droid Rooks
2 Jango Fett Knights
2 Zam Wesell Bishops
1 Count Dooku Queen
1 Darth Sidious King
You also receive an instruction sheet so that people like me who don't have a clue, can get a quarter and buy a clue. It tells you exactly how to play and how to set up the chess pieces. My son didn't need no stinkin' directions but then he had to ask me how you can tell what the difference is between the rook, knight and bishops. Well, at the base of each playing piece, it has a picture to tell you exactly what piece that character will be. See, directions are good sometimes.
The game board is a basic black board with a picture in the middle of it of Anakin Skywalker and some old guy fighting with their light sabres.
My younger son doesn't know how to play chess but every once in awhile when his brother isn't home, he will take out the chess pieces, line them up and then execute them all with his army men. So this chess set serves as 2 purposes.
Anyway, out of the 6 chess sets my son owns, this is by far his favorite. This would be a great gift for a chess player or for a star wars fan. The chess pieces are made out of some kind of hard heavy plastic that is made to look like metal, but they do hold up nicely especially considering they've been attacked by army soldiers.
