Parker P38: A Work Of Art For An Astoundingly Low Price

Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Interesting Shape, Active Pick-Ups, Piezo, Price, Neck, Tone, Everything...

Cons:Flimsy Wiring, The Body Can Get Uncomfortable At Times, Look For Some?

The Bottom Line: The Parker P38 is truly an excellent guitar... For only $600, you get a whole lot of guitar for your money... Best in class?

The Parker P38 is one of my favorite guitars that I own... Once I got mine, I fell in love with this beauty. Mine is black with a marble colored pick-guard. Pretty much, I've been able to fall in love with Parker as a whole after buying this beauty, and by playing their other guitars. I did have one problem with the guitar, but I did get it fixed easily, and as for now, this thing handles like a charm... Here's my take on the Parker P38:

-Price-
*The MSRP on the Parker P38 is $799.99, however you should easily be able to find it for $599.99. I purchased mine at guitar center for $599.99 with an entended warranty. The $600 price range is quite competitive. There are some really nice guitars from Ibanez (Most competent), Fender, and Gibson... However, I personally believe that the Parker P38 leaves them in the dust. Unlike those guitars, the Parker uses ALL active pick-ups, and also unlike the others, it has the active Fishman Piezo pick-up in the bridge, which allows you to play with an orgasmic amazing tone... The Les Paul Specials, Strats, and other guitars simply don't offer you that. Also, the Parker P38 and other Parkers have their really cool and different looking headstock, it should really set you apart. I believe that it's definitely worth $600 or even more because of the pick-up quality, and the overall build quality of the guitar.

-Under The Hood-
*You simply can't top this! Not many guitars that I've played use active pick-ups. With active pick-ups, you need to use a 9V battery, but they are truly better quality than non-active pick-ups for most part. The Parker P38 has four pick-ups, unlike a traditional two or three you'd find on most other guitars. By the neck, it has two single-coil active pick-ups, the bridge pick-up is a really sweet active humbucker, all being Parker pick-ups, and to top that all off *drum roll*, it uses the Fishman Active Piezo system. It's an acoustic pick-up located under the bridge. It really changes the tone of the guitar when it's activiated. The tone becomes very crisp, smooth, and simply different from the rest. I've actually had a problem with the Piezo. One time when I was playing, the pick-up just quit. So when I opened the guitar, the wiring came loose. No biggie, it's cheap wiring, but it's no problem to fix. Once that was fixed, I was jamming again, and never had the problem again.

-Neck-
*The necks on the Parker P38 have a really nice feel. They definitely feel better than some Strats I've played in the similar price range, and even a better feeling neck than a Tom Anderson Custom guitar that I've had the chance to play! The Parker P38 and other Parkers as well have a very unique headstock, it's different than any guitar I've ever seen. Very cool look indeed. Very nice neck, all from a very nice guitar.

-The Feel-
*The Parker P38 feels pretty good for most part. It's a very slim guitar, it feels just right! The neck feels wonderful against my hands, and everything just seems in place. However, with the different styling on the body, it can get uncomfortable if you press yourself too hard into the guitar, but for most part, I can play it for a really long time, and not get uncomfortable. Overall, the Parker P38 feels great.

-The Bad-
*As I mentioned before, the wiring to my Piezo was flimsy. Also, even thoguh it's a pro to have active pick-ups, when your battery dies, you'll be left with a non-working guitar unless you get a new 9V in there! It's really not a big deal, but it can be a real nuisance if you're unprepared for it!

-The Verdict-
*The Parker P38 is truly a beautiful guitar. It's not just a guitar, it's a work-of-art. And it's an astoundingly low $600... Wow! You get so much for $600! That's just unbelieveable! I would take a Parker P38 over almost any guitar in the $600 proce range, however I would recommend it that you look at other guitars before you buy... But for most part, the Parker P38 is truly worth the $600 that you pay. There aren't many like it... Trust me, just play one, and you'll fall in love.
