Pros:Most functional fleece jacket made.
Cons:Limited edition, hard to find.
The Bottom Line: If you can find one, snap it up.
Love this jacket for downhill or cross country skiing, hiking, skating, kayak camping, cold weather in the city! I do a lot of sports so I need clothing and equipment that I can use in more than one area. This jacket helped me get rid of a Snap T (pullover is inconvenient, has no hood) and a casual leather jacket that of course wasn't machine washable. Ease of use in the Y-joint arms. Convenient handwarmer pockets, and a slimmed down silhouette (fleece can get bulky) lets me wear a pack if necessary. Having a hood incorporated onto the jacket means I don't have to worry about losing a hat, but it is roomy enough for a balaclava or baseball cap if I need more sun or wind protection. I can still wear a helmet for skating or skiing if necessary.
Patagonia refined the original boxy Retro jacket to make it easier to do whatever sport you choose. Fleece usually need a shell to make it wind proof, so they incorporated a thin inner layer to keep you ventilated but not freezing in the breeze. Moisture wicking lining keeps you dry and comfortable no matter how much you sweat.
Sometimes Patagonia goes crazy with colors, which is great if you get lost and there's an air search, or hunters might think you're a deer. This jacket was made in khaki and sage, so you blend into both natural and citified environments.
