42ENGLISH's Full Review: Paul Mitchell 8.5oz Heat Seal
Since my hair has grown long again, I blow dry and straighten my hair with a straightening iron so this review only covers effects on straight hair. I have mastered the desired super-straight style but it has created a lot of heat stress on my hair and tends to create more split ends quicker. Nothing looks worse than long hair with brushy split-ends.
I bought Paul Mitchells Heat Seal styling spray after a visit to Supercuts for a trim. I was complaining about my bountiful split-ends and the stylist suggested I try this humidity-resistant styling spray, which would protect my hair from heat stress.
The styling spray comes in an 8.5 oz, black and white, plastic spritzer with the unique elongated Paul Mitchell logo and is for use on all hair types. To use, apply to towel-dried hair and start the regular hair-abuse.
OBJECTIVES:
LONGER LASTING STYLE: I wash my hair every two days and I can vouch for the styling staying put for that amount of time. However, only a small amount of wind can nullify that statement so hair spray is a necessary item for long lasting style.
SLEEK, SMOOTH CURL OR WAVE: When I blow-dry, I sometimes end up with ripples in the back just because I have a natural wave. This treatment tends to cure that but I wouldnt say that I achieve that sleek-smooth look until I use the straightening iron.
INCREASES BODY: I have not noticed any increase in body at all but I do have pretty thick hair to start with.
ENHANCES SHINE: It may enhance the shine a little more. I have naturally shiny hair and the only time I notice an increase is when I use Fructis Sleek & Shine but that is another story.
HELPS PROTECT HAIR FROM DAMAGE: I have definitely noticed a reduction in split-ends and hair loss since I have been using this product. My hairbrush was always filled with hair before I started using the heat seal. I still lose hair but noticeably less. The ends of my hair stay in shape a lot longer and Im actually able to grow it longer due to less visits to the hairdresser for trims.
This product says it contains natural oat proteins, panthenol and the activated moisturizing blend of Hawaiian Awapuhi. It also lists this long array of flower, herb and fruit extracts:
Amica Montana
Anthemis Nobius
Calendula Officinalis
Lemon Fruit
Thyme
Henna
Leaf
Rosemary
Bark
White Ginger
plus Hydrolyzed oat protein and Hydrogenated castor oil which may sound enticingly natural but ingredients also include:
Paul Mitchell products can be bought at hair salons such as Supercuts and at beauty supply stores. I pay $11.95 for this product and it lasts about 2 months.
FINAL THOUGHT:
On the whole, I use this product only to protect my hair. It definitely does its job in this area as I have noticed a significant decrease in split-ends and hair loss. Its styling ability is average but to prolong it would mean using hair spray.
It is a multi-purpose product which I find is useful for only one but the purpose is an important one. Because of this, I will recommend this product for protecting straight hair from damages caused by blow-drying, irons and tongs.
