Pros: smells good, can use daily without stripping hair
Cons: more expensive than store brand, very thick
The Bottom Line: For the price why not give yourself a little something more. Smells great and leaves hair more manageable. Everything I want in a shampoo.
lildev's Full Review: Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo
I am a huge Paul Mitchell fan. I have used Paul Mitchell ever since I was in high school and going to beauty school. I have used just about every shampoo and styling aid in the Paul Mitchell line. This happens to be one of my favorite shampoo's for when I have had a bad hair day. Why you ask well I will tell you.
Awapuhi leave's my hair soft, shiny, and gets the styling products all out without stripping my hair at the same time. The shampoo is very thick like a hair gel so I wet my hands and rub it into my hands before putting it on my hair otherwise it takes forever to lather up my whole head. Awapuhi contains a natural moisturizer from Hawaiian ginger plant so it replenishes hair and reduces fly away hair.
I buy this in the 32 oz. that has a pump on it. It costs $13.95 at trade secrets (which is a retail place). I only have to use one pump of the jug and it is enough to work my hair into a rich lather. I have hair that goes to the middle of my back. If you have short hair you probably would not even have to use that much. The 32 oz. jug will last me a good 6 months and that is with using it two to 3 times a week. I enter change it with my tee tree shampoo.
The consistency of this shampoo is as I said earlier rather thick. It is opalescent(sp?) color. You can smell the ginger in it as well as a slight tinge of coconut and soap. To me the fragrance is not strong and if you like the smell of things that are tropical I would think you would like this. I always have people asking me what shampoo I use since it does smell simply heavenly. The fragrance does linger, but it is just light not like when you first start washing your hair.
Directions: Wet hair thoroughly. Apply a small amount and massage through out the hair and scalp. Rinse completely and repeat if desired. I generally only wash my hair once with this because that is all it normally takes unless I have used three or four different styling products on my hair that day. I only generally use two styling products and one washing gets them all out. A few of the ingredients are : Hawaiian ginger, awapuhi extract, sodium larueth sulfate, chamomile extract, rosemary extract, wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, kelp extract, and henna extract. The oils help cleans your hair without stripping it.
I have oily hair and can use this shampoo without it leaving a build up on my hair or worrying about it weighing it down which is nice. Now if I used this daily on my hair though since it is oily it would start to make it less manageable. That is why I enter change my shampoo's. All hair types can use this shampoo though which is nice. If you are in the market for a daily shampoo or just a change this is a good shampoo in my book. Yes it does cost more, but to me for almost $14 and it lasting me a good 6 months if not longer that is not a bad price.
