annecal's Full Review: Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo
Recently my sister dyed her hair at home. It came out fine, but her hair had started looking quite oily and greasy. I thought it may have been her scalps reaction to the fist time she'd ever dyed her hair, compounded with the fact that she's loyally used the horrid Pantene on her hair for about 5 years... I took her shopping and bought her Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner. I don't usually like Paul Mitchell products. I know a lot of people have had success with them, but for whatever reason, they've never really done much for my hair. My best friend Lara had been waxing poetic about the Tea Tree line a couple years ago, and I used hers on a visit, and don't remember being terribly impressed... but I thought this would help clarify her hair and get the oily look out.
Sure enough, it did. My sister has fine hair, but a LOT of it. After using the Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner, her greasy locks were gone, and her hair looked healthy, shiny and full of body.
The people at the salon did say that you shouldn't use this shampoo if you've got color treated hair, as it tends to strip color a bit, but we haven't noticed that problem. I was visiting the family for a week, and I used this shampoo the entire time I was there. I dye my hair dark to cover red and my sister had dyed hers to cover up a bad highlighting job I'd recently given her one night when I'd had too much wine. Yeah.
I loved this shampoo so much I went out and bought a bottle of it and the conditioner for myself.
Needless to say, it contains tea tree oil, peppermint, lavender and other herbals. It smells fantastic- sort of like the Aveda line, very fresh and herbal, and when you apply it, it tingles.
I have very thick hair, and a lot of it, and it's fairly long, and I dye it often, when I get bored, so it's on the dry side. I was very surprised to find that this shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel soft and full.
It's a new favorite.
Like other quality shampoos, when you lather it, it won't lather unless your hair is more or less clean. If you didn't know this little tidbit, high quality shampoos won't create much lather if your hair is dirty. Lather is created when the shampoo connects with water and air. If you actually have something to wash out of your hair, you won't get a really rich foamy lather, and this is a good thing- you shouldn't.
So, to sum it up, this shampoo smells great, gives your scalp a nice, pleasing tingle, and leaves your hair feeling soft and looking shiny.
I would suggest that anyone give this shampoo a try, but buy the small size, just in case you're not a fan. Every head of hair is different!
