| JBduckling's Full Review: Payless Car Rental |
Going on a business trip to Orlando, I realized the price of a cab ride or car fare to the hotel was over $60 per trip. As such, I went searching for a lower rate car rental which would be a little more or less than cab fares. First place I checked was priceline.com and expedia.com to compare prices. The lowest at priceline was Payless, for about $150. On Expedia, the lowest was $180 and for good measure, I checked out Orbitz, which again, was $185 for a mid-size to standard auto, for four plus days. The next step, is going directly to Payless Car rental's website, where I was quoted a price of $135.00. I booked it.
If you read my epinions, you will notice the last time I was in Orlando, I used AVIS, much to my satisfaction. However, for $80 difference, I will try nearly anything. I was unsure of what to expect with Payless, I read others epinions, and wondered if I would get the Evil Payless or the Good Payless, when I arrived in Orlando. Fortunately, it was the Good witch.
First, the website paylesscarrental.com was easy to navigate. Typical travel site, enter all the information and up comes your quotes and rates. Easy! Follow the directions and your rate and car is confirmed. An email confirmation is sent to you and the franchisee in the city. You can check, change, verify your confirmation on line, my car was a Taurus, at less than $26 a day.
Second, upon arriving in Orlando at MCO, you pick up an easy shuttle outside the gates. Almost all rent-a-car brands are located off-site, only a few short miles away from the terminal. The Payless shuttle was not too quick, I would say two of Hertz and others passed me by while I was waiting transportation. The Payless van picked me up and took me offsite to my rent a car.
The check-in at the site was quick. At the time I arrived, there was no one in line. Jorge, my representative, was helpful. No high pressure tactics for insurance or upgrade. He did try to upgrade me to a SUV for only $5 a day additional. I would have taken it in a second, if I was with my family or needed the extra room. However, I was pleased with my familiar Taurus. I double checked at the time, my total bill was $112 plus taxes? Yes, he confirmed. Great! On to the hotel. The office and check in area was clean, not deluxe, but acceptable.
Third, my car was very clean, a bit older, with 20,000 miles however, it ran well! It did have a ding in the front left panel from a golf ball or rock, along with 3/4 of a tank of gas. I brought both items to Jorge's attention, they were documented and away I left. I was concerned about the 3/4 tank of fuel, but again, that was documented on my bill.
Finally, the return a few days later. The Payless site is a bit off the beaten trail and main drag but not difficult. Check in was a breeze, my credit card was charged for the exact amount quoted and absolutely no problems with the documented ding and 3/4 tank of fuel. What I was quoted was what I paid for my full size Ford Taurus. There were no problems. Easy shuttle back to the airport at no charge to customers. Plenty of time to catch my flight back.
My experience with the Orlando Payless Car Rental was very good. Easy to reserve, easy website to navigate, excellent price, good service, near the airport and they delivered the vehicle that they promised. It was good transportation at a very good price. If I am in Orlando again, I would certainly try Payless. Great value, easy to use, good transportation.
