I'm weird and my tastes generally run very eclectic. I live in a primarily white, Christian, farm community. (Not exactly by choice - can't you tell?) Peace Like a River was one book that I felt compelled to read and more compelled to share with others in my community. Everyone who read it (some of them grudgingly because it was my suggestion) loved it. I've not heard one bad thing about this book from anyone who has read it. It's always checked out at my local library. I think it's really worth the short read (that ends too soon).
Enger's storytelling style is comforting, and eases you into the book as if you were talking to an old friend over the phone. I've been able to converse with people I never would have met eye-to-eye with on anything if it hadn't been for that book. Even the miracles in this book can't top that.
