| studiousone's Full Review: Pearl Oyster Bar |
The place is tiny, which is fine, really, but the crowd that has to wait near the front door is a bit annoying to anyone who has the misfortune to be seated near said door. And of course, when it's cold out, if you're near the door, you're toast (cold toast). If it's warm enough you're "able" or "allowed" to wait "outside," meaning on the street. Hey, thanks a lot.
I've been to Pearl Oyster Bar several times, maybe ten times. Most of the time the food is good, albeit unimaginative. Twice (TWICE!) I have gotten violently ill by eating their steamers (clams). Friends kept saying it was all OK, and yet there I was, barfing for two days solid afterward. Hello? Doesn't "steamers" mean the clams have been COOKED?
OK, and what's with the waiter/hostess walking around the restaurant this summer wearing a TANK TOP, showing his sweaty, hairy armpits and the sweat dripping off his arms as he serves you dinner? Very appetizing...NOT! (Trust me, he's not that good looking.)
The chef is an overly butch b-tch. Don't dare ask any questions to her about the menu, the ingredients, or the preparation. She'll bite your hand off. Well, not really. Actually, she'll bite your arm off. That is one nasty-ass stalagmite.
Oh, and be prepared to wait even longer than you expected if a friend of the host, hostess, waiter, waitress, chef, dishwasher, or garbage collector shows up.
One more thing: Don't eat too slowly or try to enjoy yourself for a relaxing meal. Eventually, you WILL be asked to leave.
All in all, this place is totally overrated. Since it's so small, they can't be making much money, so I guess revenge is mine.
