I had to see a psychologist for six weeks after my amputation. My insurance company required so I could develop "strong coping skills". During the second session he asked me if I had some type of oral fixation because I was always fumbling with a piece of candy, sucker or popping some kind of mint. Jokingly I said that aliens had abducted me and removed my salivary glands. Things just weren't right between us after that. Yes, I do have an oral fixation but I keep it in check 80% of the time with things like Nips Rich & Creamy Hard Candy. Even the name of it sounds sexy.
If you are in to hard candy consider these some of the best that you can get without going in to the gourmet candies. My epic score of these happened today at CVS when I saw them on sale for .88 cents a box. Sadly, no coupons for them but at that price I think I can afford ten of them. I am torn between the Nips Caramel and the Nips Coffee flavors but I think there's room for both in my candy stash. If you've never had these you really don't know what you are missing because they are extremely tasty and have a smooth creamy taste to them. Some people see that it is coffee flavor and assume that it is going to be bitter or strong, to me these are more like a not-too-sweet frappuccino. These are hard but after you suck on them for a while the heat softens them a little so you bite of tiny little pieces. If you have dental work or fillings I suggest that you don't try that.
The four ounce boxes have about sixteen pieces of candy in them and two pieces is considered a serving. Nips / Nestle makes a pretty big deal about the fact that there are only 30 calories per piece. It doesn't matter if these had five times the calories and a bazillion grams of carbohydrates, they are just too good to pass up. The only thing that sort of sucks about them is that in the colder months they get extremely hard and it takes forever to get them soft enough that you can bite off a small piece. The longer you suck on them the more flavor you are going to get from them but that is pretty much relegated to the coffee flavor. The others have the same great taste from start to finish but the coffee version gets a little stronger after about five or six minutes. I can suck on these for a while before I have to use my fangs to bite in to them and start working the piece like its taffy. The aftertaste is just as intoxicating as the candy itself.
While I do love the coffee version I don't restrict myself to just that flavor; since they are on sale I bought a ton of them but I hate keeping them in the boxes because its such a waste of space. The downside to putting then in the candy jar on my desk is that they all pretty much look the same because of the wrappers. I get in the mood for a certain flavor and while I love them all I can get pretty cranky when I don't get what I want, especially when it comes to candy or something to suck on. I really wish that they would give the flavors more unique looking wrappers. The names of the flavors are on them but they can be pretty hard to read. They are individually wrapped within the box so they are something that you can take with you anywhere you go and given that they have so much sucking power to them, they are great if you are a smoker and can't sneak out for a break.
These normally sell for about $1.50 a box depending on where you are shopping so getting them for .88 cents a box was a good deal. Most people will have a personal preference for one of the flavor offerings and they can be pretty loyal to it. As I said, unless you are willing to go for the expensive imported top shelf coffee flavored hard candies you are going to be hard pressed to find something that has this smooth and enjoyable taste. On a side note, these do contain milk so my vegan friends once again miss to on one of lifes simple pleasures. Even though I am allergic to coconut I can eat these with no problem because it's only a trace amount of coconut oil.
If you are a coffee junkie or truly enjoy hard candies and haven't tried these they are an absolute necessity. Put them on your shopping list but don't blame me when you get hooked on them.
