| c2sue's Full Review: Pedigree Little Champions Casserole Dinner Dog Foo... |
Pedigree is now making Little Champions meals in convenient foil pouches. Each pouch contains 5.3 ounces of fine quality food for dogs. They offer a variety of meats, gravies, and even vegetables. The special lock flavor seal is wonderful in the fact that it is easy to open and pours out without having to dig it out of a can. They come in beef chunks with gravy, butcher's stew, meaty strips in gravy, beef with pasta and vegetables, and chicken gravy, just to name a few that I have tried.
I have three very large dogs and do not regularly give them wet dog food. I found that the normal canned or wet foods produces a gassy effect on them that I would rather choose to avoid at all cost. I received a free sample of the Pedigree Little Champions meal in the mail. I looked at the package and thought, "No way is that going to be enough for even one dog." So I figured I would add it to their regular Pedigree small crunchy bites dry dog food. The first thing I noticed after easily pulling off the foil top was the smell.
Now I don't know about other dog lovers or dog food conniseures, but I could not believe how real the product smelled of chicken. Not just some imitation by-product of a chicken, but a real honest to goodness chicken gravy flavor. I was impressed. I divided up the product amongst the three bowls and there was so much meat, they each got a nice healthy serving of the product.
My puppy normally will take a couple bites and leave the food alone. All three of them devoured the food and never once lifted their heads out of the bowls till the Pedigree was all gone. Ok, I figured wait for the second part of the food test. The gassy effect. No I was not looking forward to continuing on with this part of the test, but its all in the order of what is natural to them. Within a few hours, I realized that low and behold there was no gassy effect. I could actually have a dog laying at my feet and not having to rum out of the room holding my breath after they ate.
With the free sample came coupons to use. I thought that would be a great way to treat them with a healthy brand of dog food we have already used in the dry variety. I was amazed to see that the food sold in the foil pouches was only 2 for $1.00. so for a few bucks, I could give them a healthy addition to their diet and not have to gag over the smell of the food in its container or the gassy effect.
Pedigree recommends that I feed my dogs 2 1/2 pouches per 10 pounds of dog body weight per day. Ok, now that might break me financially. But since I just use the wet dog food as a bonus to the dry, I figure that I could live with the .50 a bag supplement. I would not recommend this product to use as a total meal for large dogs. I could see now why it is called Little Champions by Pedigree.
My dogs seem more full after a meal supplemented with the Little Champions dog food and have more energy and a shiny coat than just the dry dog food alone. The price seems fair and since I don't have to dig around a smelly can with a spoon, that in itself is worth it. But the real test is the flavor and scent. I was impressed that dog food could smell so good.
