----- So when is Road Rage a good thing? -----
It's not very often I venture into the realm of road bikes and their specific maintenance needs. Thanks to my going-on two year ownership of an exceptional Specialized S-Works E5 road bike I've found a lube specifically designed for the needs of road riders. Unlike mountain bikes, road bikes seldom come near dirt or sand and virtually never are ridden in mud. The average road chain requires a very low friction lubricant for the high torque loads applied by the rider. Road chains have become very thin to properly mesh with gears in a modern 10-gear rear cassette. This narrowing of the chain makes correct (and frequent) lubrication all the more important to keep chain failure from happening while riding.
Pedro's Road Rage is a full-synthetic very light weight lube designed for maximum penetration and long life. The hidden secret behind Road Rage's usefulness is the Extreme Pressure additive included in this synthetic formula. This EP additive reduces friction and heat for your chain and gearset. Road Rage also includes deep penetrants to soak deep into your chain links and stay there. While not meant for off-road riding, Road Rage is corrosion resistant and will protect your drivetrain even in adverse conditions. If you think you'll be facing rain or wet conditions on a planned ride or race, make sure you have a fresh application of Road Rage to keep your chain running smoothly.
To properly apply Road Rage for maximum longevity, first clean your chain using an appropriate chain cleaner. Apply one drop of Road Rage to each chain link as you slowly rotate the chain backwards. Once you've lubricated the whole chain simply wipe off the excess lube with a shop rag and start riding. You shouldn't have to touch your chain for quite a while as long as it's not exposed to sand or heavy dust.
----- Bottom Line -----
In my opinion the best lubes are the ones you apply and forget about. That's been my experience so far with Pedro's Road Rage, once I've cleaned my chain and cassette and applied RR, I don't have to think about it for a month or so. I'm thankful for the corrosion resistance offered by RR as I often transport my bike on my Yakima roof rack. When I encounter a rainstorm or wet roads I can rest assured my chain won't have that lovely orange hue of rust.
Road Rage is the best lube I've found for chains spending all of their time on asphalt and cement. The friction inhibitors and synthetic aspects of RR allow you to apply all the power you want to your chain and not have any power loss due to binding in the drivetrain. While there are plenty of lubes out there, until I find one better than Road Rage I'll keep on using what works.
Great new lighter weight synthetic lube wont let you down half way through a ride. Road Rage contains an EP (Extreme Pressure) additive to greatly red...More at eBay
