Do you know the Way to San Jose? Peet's Costa Rica Coffee
Written: Feb 08 '09 (Updated Feb 08 '09)
Pros:A delicious Central American Bean from near San Jose.
Cons:I can't get that Diane Warwick song out of my head
The Bottom Line: Do you know the Way to San Jose? They've got great coffee beans in San Jose. I want to find some peace of mind with coffee beans from San Jose.
Yesterday, I washed my car and pumped it full of gas. It was a typical cold New England day. This morning, I found peace of mind in San Jose. The best thing is that I didn't even have to leave my house. You see I start every day with a delicious cup of coffee from Peets.
This morning I brewed a pot of freshly ground Peets Costa Rica Coffee beans. Unlike most coffees that you buy from the supermarket or your local coffee shop, I know exactly when my beans were roasted and where they were from.
From the Best Coffee Plantations Peets sells beans from the best coffee regions throughout the world, from the Pacific Islands, Africa, Arabia to Central America. The Costa Rican coffee beans are from the coffee estates of several farmers in the tres rios region near San Jose, Costa Rica. The highlands in Central America provide the perfect climate for coffee growing. In coffee terms, it is a regional coffee. The beans are all from one specific area. The beans were born and raised in San Jose.
Fresh Roasted Beans from Peets
I am writing this review on a Sunday morning as I enjoy my Costa Rica Coffee. The beans were roasted Wednesday. I know because the coffee was purchased at the local Peet's coffee shops in Wellesley, MA. They receive their coffee orders on Thursdays, shipped overnight from Peet's central roasting plant in California. You can also order Peets coffee online, they ship the same day they roast. Unless I roasted my own beans, I couldn't get fresher roasted coffee beans than Peets.
To My Kitchen
The beans are easy to prepare, you just put them into your Burr grinder (I use a Breville Burr Grinder), and set it for the type of coffee maker you are going to use. Most mornings I use a Bunn coffee maker, so I set the grind for fine, but sometimes I break out the French Press, and those mornings I set the grind to course. Use two tablespoons to a cup. (one tablespoon per six ounces of fresh water).
The Costa Rican coffee beans are a rich aromatic bean, and I could smell them even when they were still inside the bag. One pound of Costa Rica beans are $11.95 a pound.
Into My Cup
Peets describes the coffee as full bodied and lively, but I found it to be rather medium bodied and not as lively as indicated. (Not a bad thing, just an observation). It has a mild but tasty flavor, that is neither earthy nor sweet. It has a distinct taste to it, but I can't quite put my finger on how to describe it. The bottom line though is that it goes down smooth and tasty with no aftertaste, and I quickly drank the three cups that I had prepared. I could picture myself on the balcony of a hotel room overlooking the Costa Rican rainforest enjoying this coffee.
Summary
I have been truly enjoying trying all the various coffee beans offered by Peets. I know my pound of Costa Rica coffee won't last for too long. Another five star bean from Peets. Do you know the way to San Jose? I've got lots of friends in San Jose (thanks to Peets).
