Nearly Headless Nick's Arch Nemesis: Peeves The Precocious Poltergeist
Written: Aug 14 '09

Durability:
Pros:Sweet ghost / poltergeist, slate gray color.
Cons:Head peg and torso are exclusive so building your own is a no-go.
The Bottom Line: A fitting quote from Peeves: "Ooh, ickle firsties! What fun!"
If you are a fan of the Harry Potter movies and books then chances are you are familiar with the character of Peeves. He was only featured in two Lego sets so he isn't something that casual collectors will probably be familiar with. One thing that I love about the Peeves mini figure is that he is done up in a creepy slate gray. I used a ton of the slate gray bricks when doings the walls for my castle and they add just the right touch of morbosity when they are splashed with a ltitlke bit of blood. Peeves, a very precarious poltergeist, loves to torment the students of Hogwarts but takes even more pride in his jests of Filch and his cat. While not a major player in any of the films or books, the Lego mini figure can be used for a variety of things outside of the Harry Potter series. He makes for an excellent ghost and with a little bit of modification he looks awesome as a zombie. Peeves doesn’t have that much detail to him; you have to see the figure up close in order to appreciate it though. There is a little bit of faded stenciling on the torso and the facial details are minimal. Everything is done in black and gray ink so it sticks with the overall ghost / poltergeist character portrayed n the films and books. If you want to swap out the gray hands for black one you can but I prefer the dark gray ones that you can find on the old Castle themed knights. The black can be a bit much for Peeves but if you like the look, so be it. You can get the Peeves mini figure in these sets: 4705 Snape's Classroom 4709 Hogwarts Castle What makes this so expensive? Both the head peg and the body of Peeves are exclusives; that means that no other Lego figure has them. You can modify mini figure body parts if you want to but you are going to have a hard time covering up stenciled detail or other colors. Then you have to address the actual stenciling of Peeves. When you see it from more than a few inches away you don't get a clear view of the break in the shirt, pockets or collar so this is something that you need to see up close in order to appreciate it. Since this only appeared in two sets, you are stuck making your own or paying what the resellers are asking for it. Peeves has a good solid selling price of $15.00 to $25.00; most won't go any higher than that when pricing him out because he isn't that significant of a character in the Potter story or in the Lego series to warrant it. Since the head peg and the torso are pieces that were created just for Peeves you can't harvest them from other figures. This is a pro and a con. The good part about that is you are getting something that has a unique look to it and will be a perk for any scene, the downside is that getting your hands on multiples can get expensive. There are several customized versions of Peeves at auction sites, please make sure that you read the secription carefully before ordering or bidding as some people are modifying figures to mimic the look of Peeves and hosting a photo of an authentic piece but in the text description they are telling you it is a "modified" or "custom" piece which usually means it looks like crap. Since they are divulging the information about it in the advert you won't have any recourse when you receive your item. I have a few Peeves figures so I'm not in the market for more of them at the moment. The most I would pay for this mini figure is about five dollars. That is my usual 'line in the sand' price for figures but there are some that have a lot of detail to them or they are things that I need multiples of but they are rare or only appeared in a few sets. If you want to collect more of the Peeves figures I suggest getting the Snape's Class / Classroom for about ten to fifteen dollars and end up with a lot of extra pieces that you can use for other builds. I don't think that there is a single Lego mini figure that I would ever pay twenty dollars for so resellers can sit around and wait for someone like me to part with my cash for a piece of plastic. ================== ^V^ © 2009 Freak369 ^V^ ================== Harry Potter Lego Professor Quirrell Mini Figure Harry Potter Lego Potter / Goyle Mini Figure Harry Potter Dementor Mini Figure Harry Potter Lego Spell Books Dumbledore Key Chain Harry Potter Key Chain Hermione Key Chain
