chretiensucks's Full Review: Peg Perego 2002 Prima Pappa High Chair
My wife and I never knew what to expect when our first baby would finally begin eating solids. But the term messy eater is definitely an understatement of our boy. One of the things registered for our baby shower was a Prima Pappa high chair. And thank God all the surfaces are easy to clean and fairly stain resistant.
Fabrics and Materials
We got the Prima Pappa high chair with the vinyl seating surface. I have never found the hygeniec vinyl a difficult material to keep clean. I probably wouldnt get the leatherette option for this chair though.
If youve read any of my other baby product reviews, I sometimes complain about the quality and fit of the plastics. There are definitely no complaints here. No latches that dont snap in easily because they dont line up properly with the slots. No cheap warped plastic surfaces that dont fit onto other surfaces because theyre not designed to be warped in the first place.
Only one small complaint of the brake releases for the rear casters being a little on the small side which makes it a little difficult to engage and disengage with your toes.
Ditto for the single latch behind the seat which gives you 4 reclining positions. Occasionally, if youre not careful, each side of the seat may lock into a different position giving you a slightly lopsided seat. Theres also a possibility of your baby getting his hand caught between the plastic armrests and the seat while youre adjusting the recline to a more upright position.
Theres a double tray, one snaps and fits on top of the other one and can be removed and put in a dishwasher. Both tray surfaces are identical in size but the removeable top tray has a main surface and one divided indentation for a cup or bottle. The bottom tray has no cup holder. As with many plastic surfaces, carrot stains are a little difficult to remove. The trays are very easy to slide out with the pull of a latch underneath.
Positioning, Adjustability, and Safety
The importance is not the fact that the Prima Pappa high chair has 7 different height positions its how you adjust the height. One lever on each side of the chair has a large easy to push, flat button underneath. The lever is large enough to be grasped fully with each hand. Then its easy to adjust the height of the chair by simply lifting or lowering. Even with our 20 pound baby in the chair, this was very easy to do. But even in the lowest position, I can't see this as a very easy chair for toddlers to climb into themselves. I guess we'll find out in another 8 months. I'll update this review then. We dont always use the 5-point safety harness but have not found it to be a problem holding the child in place. Because it is a fabric material (as all belts are), it is more difficult to clean than the rest of the chair. Being that he is also a very squirmy kid, many a time has that useful crotch-guard has prevented him from sliding through the bottom. For larger kids, the leg portion of the seat has a flip-up foot rest.
Unlike some other reviews Ive seen on Epinions on the older version (pre-2002) of this highchair, I did not experience the same problem of there being too much space between the child and the tray and our baby is pretty skinny. Maybe the chair has been updated. Our tray can be locked into 3 different positions with the tightest position leaving the tray only 6 or 7 inches away from the backrest on the seat.
Under normal conditions, the Prima Pappa is easy to roll around and navigate over ceramic tiles or hardwood floor but once the small casters and plastic fenders pick up a little dust, dirt and food crumbs, it gets more difficult. Just keep your casters and floor relatively clean.
An easy pull of a rotating lever at the base and your high chair which occupies approximately 6 square feet folds easily to take up slightly more than 2 square feet.

Conclusion
Complaints are pretty minor and all this quality comes at a price, but its one of those items that will take a while for your child to outgrow.
