Peg Perego Pliko P3 - 2007 Version
Jul 13, 2009
Review by mw23
User Rating: Excellent
Ease of Use:
Pros:Light-weight, folds easily, child tray, basket holds a lot, price, colour, and canopy.
Cons:No parent tray, cupholder spills, difficult one-hand push, terrible in the snow.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this stroller if you want something with a lot of features, that is fairly light and compact when folded and don't want to pay a lot.
I researched strollers like crazy when I was expecting my first baby in 2006/2007. At the time, there were not all of the Bugaboo knock-offs and I was morally opposed to spending that much money on a stroller! The Pliko P3 looked to be a great stroller for the price, and it has been since we started using it with our first baby in spring 2007. When looking for a stroller, I particularly needed something very light-weight and easy to fold because our house had a long flight of exterior stairs to get to the front door. This stroller is very light weight for a full-sized stroller. It's often advertised as an umbrella stroller (because of the weight and folding style, I guess) but it's really more a full-sized stroller. The stroller is also really easy to fold. Just pull up the levers on each handle and lift the handle that sits behind the canopy. It then locks in place and stays folded. If you lock the front wheels in the forward position, you can even stand the stroller on its own (which has been very handy in restaurants or when we just want to store it to the side or when getting it and all of our stuff into and out of the car - you don't have to lean it against anything or lay it on the ground). As for it being light-weight, I could carry it and the baby at the same time because of the handy carry handle (on the stroller, not the baby). I think the newer models are heavier, though, so you may wish to check that if you're considering a later version. The canopy on this stroller is also great. It can almost come all the way down to the child tray if necessary. One complaint is the peek-a-boo window was completely useless as it was made of some mesh-like material that you can't see through. Again, that may be different on later models. The cup holder is fine but not great. I don't have a lot of trouble with it falling off (although sometimes it does getting in and out of the car) but drinks have a tendency to spill except on perfectly smooth surfaces, unless they're not very full or have a lid. Fortunately, the canopy is easy to clean. I've never had to remove the fabric to clean it, but it really hasn't shown its wear and wipes up very easily. It fully reclines, which is nice, but the recline mechanism sometimes sticks so you have to jiggle it a bit. My daughter wasn't much for sleeping in the stroller so that didn't really matter to us. When I was buying this stroller, a lot of people complained about the basket - that you have to access it from the side. I've never found that to be a problem and I've stuffed tonnes of shopping etc. under there with no problems. The basket has held a lot of weight (bags of milk etc.) and it has held up beautifully. I hang my diaper bag from the handles, though, so I don't know whether it would be difficult to have to access a diaper bag from the basket. Because the handles are not attached to each other, you can hang shopping bags etc. from them. Our stroller looks like a pack-mule sometimes with all the stuff hanging from it. I've never had a problem with it tipping. On the down-side, because the handles aren't attached together, this stroller is very hard to push with one hand. For some reason, my stroller seems to want to roll to the left-hand side. I'm assuming this is a one-off and not indicative of the make as a whole. The child tray is great. It has been key for our daughter who loves to snack (and will sometimes only be happy in the stroller if she has a snack). Now that she is a 30-pound toddler, the tray opens very easily (it swings our from either side) for easy access to her. Except for pushing with one hand and the list, the stroller handles very well but it's terrible in the snow. We are now (finally) buying a new stroller for the snow. I would have loved a parent tray but I make do with using my diaper bag hanging from the handles instead to store things. Overall, it's been a great stroller for the price and we love the red colour. We're getting an UppaBaby Vista, also in red, but I intend to keep the Peg in the car because it folds fairly small and is so lightweight and convenient.
