| servin's Full Review: Peg Perego Prima Pappa High Chair Roller |
I registered for and received the Peg Perego Prima Pappa High Chair as a gift for my baby shower when I was expecting my first child in 2002. My son used his highchair every day from about 4 months old until he was about 2 years old, and now my daughter has begun to use the high chair. Overall, I think that this is probably one of the best high chairs you can buy, and definitely worth the extra money you will spend on it in comparison to other high chairs out there. The Prima Pappa price ranges from $159.00 to $199.00. A full description of the features of the Prima Pappa is available on Peg Perego's website: www.pegperego.com
What I Like About It
Size
The Prima Pappa is bigger than some of the other high chairs on the market. When I say bigger, I mean that the seat is roomier for your child. This was a big issue for me, as my son is a bigger than most child. He continued to fit very comfortably in this high chair even as he approached 40 lbs. This was not the case in other high chairs that we have tried at friends' houses.
Color/Style
While this might not be an issue for most, I was very, very pleased that the Prima Pappa was available in a variety of seat colors, including, black leatherette, white leatherette, red, blue and white check & tan. It seems very hard to find any baby items, including high chairs, that come in anything but blue, so having a wider selection was awesome. We selected the white leatherette (see what I don't like about the chair for more on this color). A note on color - all stores which carry the Prima Pappa don't always carry all the color selections that Peg Perego offers. Be sure to shop on the internet if you can't find the color you are looking for in a store like Babies R Us.
The Tray
Another awesome feature of the Prima Pappa is the tray. This tray is larger than those on other high chairs, and has a removable top tray for easy cleaning. The large size was helpful for me as it allowed me to keep the food out of reach of my son if needed. It also allowed me to use the tray as a play area that could hold a lot of toys. The tray also comes with a cup holder and can be removed with one hand - an awesome feature for parents who are constantly trying to juggle with a baby in one arm. The only drawback to such a large tray is that it did not fit in my dishwasher.
Portability, Flexibility, and Durability
This high chair is both portable and durable. It is portable in two ways. First, it is on rollers, which makes it easy to drag around the house. Second, it folds up relatively flat, which means it can be taken easily on road trips to Grandma's etc.
The Prima Pappa is very flexible. The seat can be raised and lowered, so that you can actually use the chair at a regular table without attaching the tray. The seat can recline, making it easy to feed young babies. The shoulder straps can be adjusted for height as the baby grows. The current model also features the ability to rock, making it yet another place to soothe your baby.
Our high chair is now being used by my second child. It still looks brand new in spite of daily use and abuse. The only replacement part we got was new upholstery. We have used it in the house, in the backyard, and have taken it on trips. I have found it extremely durable.
What I Don't Like
White Leatherette Upholstery
If you purchase the Prima Pappa, don't get the white leatherette upholsetery. I selected this upholstery before I had any children and I was quite naive about just how messy toddlers can be when they are eating. The white leatherette, after scrubbing it three times a day, started to crack and look permanently dull and dirty. Before my second child started using the high chair, I purchased replacement upholstery from Peg Perego for about $35.00. This time I selected the blue and white check pattern which hides the dirt a lot better than the white.
Can Be Hard to Clean
There are quite a few nooks and crannies in the Prima Pappa which can be hard to reach to clean. I have found that about once a month it was necessary to actually hose down the high chair in order to clean it.
