Pros: This case will outperfom most of steel ones
Cons: Relatively heavy weight, not top-open style
The Bottom Line: In conclusion, I recommend the case to whom looks for a great protection, simplicity and don' mind carrying extra pounds for a peace of mind.

| jay_kr's Full Review: Pelican 1490 Laptop Computer Case Bag |
It took me a week to choose between a plastic and steel case. Pelican has been known for serious engineering and camera equipment cases. For those who look for a steel one. Hamilton and Vanguard would be a good start. I found many vanguard cases on Ebay for less.
After purchased ThinkPad A22P, I had to buy a carrying case. I went to a local computer shop to benchmark various models. Most of current carrying cases come with decent padding and thoughtful design with $40-50 range. If you have a light weight notebook, those cases will do the job well.
Because I have 7lbs+ laptop, I have to find something more rugged model. My main concern was an accidental drop. The heavier the laptop is, the harder it hits the ground.
This was why my skipped the steel models. This does not mean Pelican case is lighter. It kills my back while I am carrying my ThinkPad, extra power cell, AC adapter and other stuff. But I still don't have to worry about bang or drop.
Pelican is made of thick industrial-grade plastic that absorbs the impact. Ok, enough for an instruction. Here is things what you will get form this case
1. Air -tight
2. Dust-free
3. Pressure release valve
4. Scratch-free
5. Heavy insulation
6. A Real shoulder pad
7. A diehard lock
8. Replaceable and DIY (Do-It-Yourself) padding configuration
9. Rubber inner shell (tray) for extra protection
The case comes with a thick O-ring for air tight seal. O-ring is replaceable. Pelican cases are built for heavy usage and require replacement parts sometimes. Most of replacement parts are readily available in the market.
Since it's an air-tight case, its dust free and water proof. I usually wipe the case with a wet cloth for cleaning.
Pressure release valve comes in handy for who travel via airplanes. High altitude causes a lock-out. This valve levels the pressure of in/out side case.
It does catch scratches, if you are a hard core mobile user. But scratches are very minimum. My friend has Vanguard for his G4 Titanium. It's no match to Pelican. Vanguard looks great with G4 Titanium, though.
A shoulder pad is real deal. It has adequate amount of padding and slip-free rubber layer. Both hooks on strap and the case are very rugged. If you have North Face backpacks, you will feel the exact same quality for this shoulder strap.
You can lock your case with built-in locks or use a manual padlock to additional holes on the case. The latches are cased with a part of the case. This will protect the locks when you drop the case to a hard surface. The latches are treated with rubber for a god grip, so is the carrying handle.
Padding is superb. It's heavy-duty stylo form core with pre-cut grid. You tear off the grid to fit your notebook tight. If you need to change the dimension of padding for another notebook, you can buy extra padding from Pelican retailer.
Rubber tray is another neat feature. You can buy the case without the tray for less but I recommend getting the tray. I carry an extra power cell and zip drive. This tray has a divider in the middle so it prevents the notebook to press down your stuff. The tray also provides extra protection.
The case has a number of faux leather pouches to carry your files, pens, cellular phone and small stuff. So you won't miss anything from your regular briefcase. Since this is open-case style, it could be annoying to reach your stuff. You have to place you case on a table and open the case and drag your stuff every time. It's not a big concern to me since I carry my North Face satchel. Flap-style has same problem when you take out your stuff from the case while you are walking on the street. Tamrac has a case that can solve this accessibility problem. Check out Photo Messenger™ model.

I can't talk much about how well it will work because I don't have one. But this will give you an idea what I am trying to say. This case will work great for who uses digital cameras.
I purchase my case from caseform.com.

They carry many models and replacement parts. Service and delivery were good. Even though you buy the case form others, it is worth to take a look and find other alternative models you may choose.
In conclusion, I recommend the case to whom looks for a great protection, simplicity and don' mind carrying extra pounds for a peace of mind.
