Pros: A very stable and affordable square-back canoe option.
Cons: Sluggish in the water, needs two persons paddling or motor, it does not glide well.
The Bottom Line: If you need a craft hauling a big payload, and great stability, yet haul atop a vehicle, then this is an outstanding choice. A great family canoe and workhorse.

I purchased one of these square-back pelican canoe just over a year ago. It's seen quite a lot of use, both with and without a motor.
It carries a tremendous payload, and is very stabile and solid in the water. In fact, it's so stabile that while waterfowl hunting last year, my full sized yellow lab retriever (70+ lbs)was able to climb over the side of the canoe with three people in the canoe, and all our gear without the slightest hint of problems.
Now, for the down side of this craft. It handles like a slug! Although the bottom ribs in the flat bottom allow it to track nicely on lakes, it is WORK to paddle. This is one water craft that you'll really appreciate a small motor mounted on that squared off transom. Even a 35 lb. thrust electric motor is marginal push when facing even a mild 7-10 knot breeze. I own other canoes, and I can attest to this being the most difficult one of the bunch to propel through the water.
Another up side. This canoe, while having a large, robust beam, still travels comfortably atop a vehicle. Mine rides well even on our Suzuki Samurai! This isn't a light-weight craft, but very manageable for two adults to load atop a vehicle.
Why the Pelican Bayou 160?
I have three kids and we do a good deal of fishing in North Idaho, where access with a vehicle and trailer is difficult or impossible and I wanted a very stabile craft that would haul a large payload of passengers and cargo. Too, we do a good deal of waterfowl hunting in the same areas, so access in very shallow water was an essential.
For the money, it's a good deal, and if I had it to do over again, yes, I would buy the Bayou 160 for the purposes I had intended it to be used for.
