Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog; Yummy, Just Like the Good Ol' Days

Pros:The ultimate Christmas Cheer for the Holiday mood
Cons:lots of calories lurking in a bottle of egg nog
The Bottom Line: At about $10 Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog makes a nice bottle to bring to a friends home for the holidays. It's become part of the kick-off for the Christmas Season.

I have been drinking spirit-laced egg nog since I was a kid and my parents had it on the table during the Christmas holidays. I liked it then and I still enjoy it now some fifty something years later. My mom and dad's choice in their home was always Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog.

Back then it was diluted a bit for us kids with milk or non-alcoholic egg nog. It was always a treat. I enjoy the product right out of the bottle now but like my parents did then, my wife and I have continued through the years to allow our kids and now our grand children to have Egg Nog,  with a one third to one half mix of milk. My wife's choice at home because it's easier to find, and is also quite delicious, is Old New England Egg Nog.

Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog

Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog is sold in a large glass 750 mil. bottle that takes on the creamy colour of the inside product. This is a very rich, smooth tasting egg nog with a kick! It has a 14.75 alcohol content (29.5 proof) so it can be pretty potent as Christmas cheer to the inexperienced thinking they are having a couple of glasses of delicious dairy product. Don't let the quaint scene on the bottle of the Pennsylvania landscape fool ya!

The bottle notes that  Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog is made with Real Dairy Cream, Rum Brandy and Blended Whiskey.

Enjoying The Season

Egg Nog goes with the Christmas Holiday season. It's a fine drink that emits it's own Christmas Cheer like that of snow falling outside and a warm fire crackling inside. It just seems to go. We always have our egg nog on Thanksgiving but the first official "Christmas" consumption comes on the night we decorate our Christmas tree. The kids get some too, either with milk or straight dairy egg nog.

Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog is best served chilled. A good shake gets everything inside the bottle mixed well and ready to drink. When it's poured it comes out rich and creamy looking leaving a thick film on everything it touches including the lips. I enjoy that first creamy sensation as the liquid enters my mouth. It's quickly joined with a Whisky bite. Yum! In our home we usually enjoy the Old New England Egg nog but personally, to me there's no real difference. They are both rich, creamy (and sweet) and have the same "bite" of the spirits afterward. It is the creaminess, however that lingers in the mouth.

Though my wife brings home Old New England Egg Nog more often I find no real difference between it and this product, Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog. I rate both the same.

At about $10 Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog makes a nice bottle to bring to a friends home for the holidays. It keeps well but must be refrigerated after it's been opened.
