Pentax camera control, creativity, and affordability
Written: Sep 28 '00 (Updated Nov 01 '01)
Pros:Manual and automatic settings, ease to operate, compatible with addons, old technology combined with new
Cons:Slow focusing
The Bottom Line: A great camera for beginners to learn and for advanced users who need flexibility and compatibility. I recommend it to all.
I actually received this camera as a gift for a birthday. I had always wanted a good SLR camera, easy enough to operate but yet be able to set f-stops and zoom. This camera is great for outdoors without a flash, and indoors with one (sometimes without one if the lighting is right). It has a great adaptability with add-ons, especially the flash. It has a manual specifications and automatic, and with the automatic setting, the camera automatically responds to the flash, making the settings just right. If a group shot is needed, the camera can be put on a tripod and the timer can be set to go off 10 seconds after activated. It can also handle multiple presses of the button with another setting. However, if you need to take a really quick shot, there is not much time for focusing, so there is a handy split circle in the middle of the lens, and as soon as the lines are lined up it is focused. The light bar is digital and there is no light meter battery to worry about, and what's great about that is that putting the lens cap on is not necessary because you can turn off the camera with the flip of a switch. However, it does need two CR2 batteries, but these are easily available at Wal-Mart or other similar stores. I didn't have to replace the battery until almost two years after it was purchased.
This product is great for anyone who enjoys taking pictures and having control over it. It is a relatively inexpensive camera for what it can do. I definitely recommend it for everyone.
