I have had Pentel R.S.V.P. pens for years now. I can¡¦t remember where I got them, but I always remember them being among my favorite writing tools.

There are seven colors to choose from, although I only have black and blue ones. The R.S.V.P is a refillable pen, if you¡¦re willing to buy the correct BKL7 cartridges. The end of the pen simply screws off so that you can remove the ink cartridge.


The PhD¡¦s Stylish Appearance

The Pentel R.S.V.P. is clear, which I find both attractive and functional. It allows you to see when you¡¦re getting low on ink. The barrel of the pen has the product name on it in silver, as well as the size of the tip- in my case, ¡§Fine¡¨.

The cap of the pen fits over not just the tip but also the rubber grip. The cap has a clip on it, convenient for things like clipping to a notebook. And, it has a little ball in the top of the cap that serves as a color indicator.


Writing with the RSVP

The R.S.V.P. has a rubbery grip, which Pentel calls the ¡§Comfort Zone„§¡¨. I love pens with rubber grips, because they not only increase writing comfort, but they also prevent your fingers from slipping along the pen cartridge.

The tip of the pen is stainless steel, and feels sturdy. The tip is large, but comes to a nice point. It feels like a precision pen, and I like the strong or well-built feeling I have when writing with the R.S.V.P.. Also adding to a nice writing experience is the length and weight of the pen. Although it¡¦s not heavy, it¡¦s not a featherweight pen (like cheap or free pens). It has just enough weight to feel secure as it sits against your hand. With the cap on the back of the pen, the R.S.V.P. is just slightly longer than most pens, but I can tell the difference. I¡¦m one of those people who can¡¦t stand writing with a pen that doesn¡¦t have a cap on the back of it, or is at least heavy. I feel like it provides more leverage.

The ink flows smoothly in this pen. Normally I don¡¦t like fine tip pens, but with the R.S.V.P., I feel like I¡¦m getting a precision line or writing experience. The ink doesn¡¦t skip, and the pen doesn¡¦t dispense too much ink either. This isn¡¦t one of those pens that gets all ¡§globby¡¨ on the tip.

This is exactly the kind of pen you want if you¡¦re writing a letter (that¡¦s probably why they named it ¡§RSVP¡¨), taking a college essay exam, or in need of a pen for any writing experience where you need a reliable writing tool- especially for extended periods of writing. (I also recommend the PHD pen, but you¡¦re talking about $6 a pen!).


Dislikes?

I can¡¦t really say I have too much to complain about with this pen. The only thing I can think of is that over time, the clear barrel became somewhat scuffed up, especially on the inside of the cap where it sat on top of the pen. I also managed to snap off the clip on the pen cap when I was goofing around (pushing it out with my thumb), but I doubt it would otherwise break, since it hasn¡¦t on any of my other pens.


Price & Where to Find

You have a variety of colors to choose from in the Pentel R.S.V.P., but there is also a retractable version.

The Pentel R.S.V.P. will cost you around $1.50, which I think is reasonable. Most office supply stores will have boxes of these as well, so if you want to buy a bunch, it will reduce the cost of each pen. Many times, office stores like Staples or Office Max have online coupons, so if you¡¦re purchasing a significant amount of supplies online, I would suggest doing an internet search for online coupons.

I¡¦m thrilled about the price. This is a fairly high-quality writing tool, yet if it¡¦s lost, you won¡¦t be devastated over it. I would rather buy this than worry about carrying around a $25 (or more) pen.


Overall

I have had a few Pentel R.S.V.P. pens over the years. This is the kind of pen that doesn¡¦t cost a fortune, but at the same time, it isn¡¦t the type you won¡¦t care if you lose them. I have kept mine safe at home or away from people who tend to walk away with your pens. I like that these aren¡¦t astronomically priced, but are of good quality. If I know I have a lot of writing to do, the R.S.V.P. is just the kind of pen I reach for. It is comfortable and provides a very nice ink.

I am giving this one five stars because it is a relatively inexpensive pen that I feel is reliable, comfortable, and looks nice.
