In a perfect world things like erasers and correction pens would never exist – there’d simply be no need for them. Sadly, we don’t live in a utopia void of errors so these products become a true necessity when typing, doing artwork or touching up photocopies. I’ve used several flat styled correction pens in the past but they all seemed to have their limits, either you couldn’t use them at a certain angle or the tip would clog or develop clumps of the fluid. When I got an email about new Pentel products and saw this listed, I was more than a little curious about it and added it to my list of things to order or pick up at the office supply store. It took me a while but I eventually tracked down several of the Presto! products locally and didn’t hesitate to toss them in my basket. After trying them out I found that I really liked the way that they performed but had a definite preference for the Presto! Jumbo sized one as well as medium sized Presto! correction pen – perfect for larger jobs or when you need to cover a larger area.

Pentel Presto! Flat Barrel Correction Pen

One of the first things I noticed about the correction pen was that it was extremely easy to grip. This doesn’t have a rubber comfort grip however it doesn’t lead to hand cramps after extended periods of use since the width of the barrel allows you to flip it over or hold it at different angles. I have tried both the Junior and Jumbo sizes and found that the larger of the two is easier for me to handle and allows me more freedom when I am working on a freehand project. The boys on the both hand really prefer the smaller, thinner Junior size and swiftly confiscated them from my desk. The tip on this correction pen is phenomenal, no clogging, no clumping and no ink globs on the paper. This is something that is really important to me since I use this on fine line artwork when I need to touch up corners or small detailed areas.

The real advantage of this over correction fluid and correction tape is that you have a lot of freedom with it. You can write over cursive text, cover photo images or enhance black art – and that’s just the beginning. I have found a ton of uses for this product and consider it a great investment. What impressed me the most was the flow of the fluid regardless of how hard I pressed or how long I used it, the tip delivered the same steady stream under a lot of different conditions. The snap on cap ensures that you won’t have any accidents or leaks if you toss this in your backpack or a childs school bag and the plastic clip means that it can be attached to inside pockets of briefcases or bags so it’s always within reach when needed.

The Presto! Jumbo retails for about $2.39 which is a real steal in my opinion. The Presto! Junior is about .10 - .20 cents cheaper so the price difference is minimal – it all boils down to what you are using this for, if you like larger or smaller pens and how often you will be using it. You can check online office supply stores for the best price and maximize your savings if they offer free shipping. I’ve found these at Wal-Mart, Target and Office Depot and when I inquired about them at other stores I was told that if they didn’t have them in stock, they would be getting them in stock in the near future.

The Bottom Line

While this was created for going over mistakes and errors, I tend to use this more for fine line art touch ups as well as writing on the gel paper. The correction fluid flows nicely from the tip, will not clog the rollerball and has literally no odor when being used. This is one of the newer versions of correction pens from Pentel and is deemed as ozone safe and ozone friendly and I am assuming they are making this claim since they removed several of the alcohol based chemicals and replaced them with elements that are safer to the environment. For the price, this is one of the best pen styled correction tools on the market but it also doubles as a fine line white marker and can easily be used for writing on black gel paper essentially replacing the more expensive gel markers.
