Hmmmm . . . . . (Reply to this comment)

Megu, I don't know how I missed this way back in '01 but it is very complete and mirrors our experiences to the point we chose not to ever go back because of the attitude of the servers. I've heard from friends that it hasn't changed - still haughty attitued.
Since you like dim sum, we have several good ones out here in the 'burbs. Cmon out and lets do dim sum!!!

great food but the service? (Reply to this comment)

Peony is one of my favorite restaurant due to the pure fact that it has great food. The dim sum and the dishes from their regular menu are delectable. However, watch out when the waitress asks you if you want the whole steamed fish for a certain amount of dollars. What she neglects to tell you is that it is per pound. It is up to the chef what size fish they serve you and you may end up with a larger fish bill then you expected. I do not know why such a fine establishment practices such deception. We were very surprised when our fish turned out to be charged per pound and the bill was almost twice what the waitress quoted. Otherwise, Peony is one of the top Chinese restaurants that does Chinese (Hong Kong) cuisine right.

I love how you give a short dim sum 101 to those who aren't familiar with it.
True, I know EXACTLY what you mean when you state that less grease translates to better tasting food. I don't like to wake up the next day with acne! yeeks!
If I'm ever in the Oakland Chinatown area, I'll try and keep this place in mind and give them a visit. Thank you!
