| gdwtch22's Full Review: Pepto Bismol Original Chewables 30 Tablets |
Okay, I'm sure this isn't one of the most popular subjects on Epinions, though everyone at some point in their lives has to think about it. Diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, and heartburn. There, now that I've said the dirty words, I can tell you how to get rid of them.
Pepto-Bismol is one of the most effective medicines I've ever used. It does what it says, and if you are smart enough to read the bottle it warns of possible side-effects. My biggest problem with it has always been the smell and taste. It really is disgusting. I think they tried to make it taste and smell like peppermint, though they failed miserably. I was glad when I found Pepto-Bismol tablets, I thought that maybe it would go down a little easier. Well, the smell is gone, but the same awful taste is still there. But, the tablets are slightly better than the liquid. They don't seem to work as fast though. With the liquid it usually took anywhere from 5 to ten minutes to soothe my stomach, with the tablets it takes from 20 to 30 minutes to notice relief. The ingredients are as follows: Benzoic acid, flavor, magnesium, aluminum silicate, Methylcellulose, Red 22 and 28, saccharin, sodium, salicylic acid, sodium salicylate, sorbic acid, and water. The dosage is 1 tablet every half hour as needed. I never needed more than two tablets for the worst cases. There isn't any sugar in it, however it warns that diabetics and people with gout should consult a doctor before taking it. Also children who are recovering from the Chicken pox should not take it, as nausea and vomiting my be a sign of Reye Syndrome. The back of the bottle also warns that taking it may cause your tongue and bowel movements to darken. Though I thankfully never had this happen to me, I have friends who have. They said it usually goes away within a day or so.
The price of Pepto-bismol is reasonable. You get 20 chewable tablets for about four dollars. If it seems like too much to you, you can try Western Family's Pink Bismuth tablets. They are about a dollar cheaper, though I think they don't work as well.
You can't really avoid diarrhea, and upset stomach, Pepto-Bismol is your best bet for relieving your symptoms.
