| three_ster's Full Review: Pepto-Bismol Original Formula Liquid |
For years, I have had Pepto-Bismol in my house. Even when I moved away from my parents place to head to college, this was something I knew I would want with me, and purchase it I did. The simple reason I have liked Pepto-Bismol for so long, is that it works wonders for me. When you do find a product that works for you the way that it is advertised to, and you find yourself happy with the results, there is no reason to mess with it, no matter how many people around you might not like it. For instance, I have had quite a few friends who have not liked the taste of Pepto, and thus will only take it as a last result. The taste is a big thing that people have a hard time getting around, and often times it can simply turn someone off to a product. With me however, I actually LIKE the taste of Pepto-Bismol, so when I take it, it becomes more of a treat to me than anything else. Luckily for me though, I do not end up needing this "treat" too often.
Pepto-Bismol Original Formula Liquid is intended to relieve symptoms that include; upset stomach, indigestion, diarrhea, heartburn, and nausea. It advertises that it gives "soothing relief" for all of these things. In my experience, I have used it for the first 4 symptoms, but not for nausea. I don't often get very nauseous, so I wouldn't have even thought of using something like Pepto if I did. The Pepto comes in a 12 or 16 ounce bottle depending on how much you are looking for, and the price runs at about $4.99 for the smaller one, and $5.99 for the larger one. Because I like the product so much, I usually stick with the 16-ounce bottle, because the stuff can last a long time, and I figure why not just buy it in bulk the first time around. The bottle itself is very easy to spot when you are in the store, by its pink coloring, but beware, because a lot of similar products have hit the market with the same coloring. Their thoughts, I am sure, is that consumers will think it is basically the same product, and if they sell it slightly cheaper that people will give them more business. Well don't be fooled by this, because I have tried other brands of the "pink stuff", and not only is the taste worse, but I have not had success when it comes to dealing with my symptoms. Instead, I will stick with the brand that I know and trust.
As I said, the pink liquid is hard to miss when you are shopping at the local drug store or super-market. The pink bottle comes with a screw-off top, which is housed by a small plastic cup from which you can drink the Pepto-Bismol. After each use, I wash out the little cup, so that I can use it again the next time I am having problems. The use, brings me to one of the problems that people have with this product, and that is the taste and texture. When you take a drink of it, it automatically begins coating your throat, all the way down to your stomach. It actually feels quite good, and has a cooling or soothing effect on your insides. The base of the Pepto is a bit on the chalky side, and that is what people tend to shy away from. The taste seems almost like bubble-gum to me, and the texture doesn't dissuade me at all from using it over and over again. In fact, because I know that it tastes good, I am more likely to use it when I am having stomach problems. Due to the cooling effects that it has on my stomach right away, I have found that the Pepto jumps into action right away. For best use, I will take the Pepto, and then lay down for a while after I have let it coat my insides. The symptoms always subside, and if I eat a little better after taking it, I am good to go.
Pepto-Bismol will always be something that I keep on hand, simply because it has always worked so well for me. They do have a "maximum strength" version of it on the market as well, but since I have enjoyed success with this one, I will stick with it until it doesn't work for me anymore. If you ever have an upset stomach, or are suffering from a mild case of heartburn, pick up a bottle of Pepto-Bismol, and let the pink liquid do its job. It is gentle on your system, works well, tastes great (in my opinion), and can be found at just about any store. Because of all of those conclusions, I highly recommend its use.
