Pros: It is inexpensive and does line the stomach.
Cons: Does not always work for me.
The Bottom Line: I really think it depends on the person taking this product. I have a weak stomach and find only minor help. For others it may work well.

The first year I arrived in America I had violent pains in my stomach. My husband took me to a walk in clinic, as we had not registered with a doctor. The gentleman I saw was Russian. He explained that I had a stomach bug and to take Pepto-Bismol. I had no idea what he was talking about and asked for a prescription. He informed us that this was an over the counter product, and to get a bottle at the nearest pharmacy. So off my husband went.
I was so happy to have something to help with the pain. I was doubled over with it. I continued to keep taking it every couple of hours and did feel a little better. Eventually the 'bug' or whatever it was left my system. Therefore I decided to always have a bottle in the medicine cabinet.
After I found myself a doctor and visited over the years, I realized that many pills I was prescribed upset my stomach. Mine is very sensitive. I was told to take Pepto-Bismol the night before I took pills in the morning. This way my stomach would have a coating around it. At times it worked, but more times than not I had a reaction to the new medication.
A couple of years ago a new doctor to our practice suggested I take Axid at night instead. This is one of the newer Acid Reducer products. This in fact stopped me having an upset stomach the following morning. I have since replaced my Pepto-Bismol with this product.
I still think that Pepto-Bismol is a quality product.
It can be taken at any time of the day or night. Either on a full or empty stomach. It is suitable for children as well as adults. Do check the recommended doses. Adults can take 2 tablespoons up to 8 times in a 24 hour period.
Children over 3 can take this product and the quantity is listed on the bottle. Under 3 years of age, please check with your doctor first.
The product is for:
indigestion
heartburn
anti-diarrhea
upset stomach
nausea
There are 2 strengths. The original which I used and also maximum strength. The original comes in 4 sizes.
4,8,12, and 16 oz bottles.
With any over the counter product check first that you should take it. My husband is a diabetic and he is very limited in what products he can take. Many have interactions with his insulin, blood pressure, and blood thinning medications. I personally have not found this to be the case with me.
Final thoughts.
I may never have found this product if it had not been for that doctor. Yes, it has worked for me in the past. It is not pleasant to drink. It kind of leaves an unpleasant taste in my mouth. However, the price is great, and I think for many people is does do it's job. Would I purchase it again. Probably not for myself, but would suggest it to friends, as I know it can work.
