Pros: can sand uneven boards flat.
Cons: better cover and latch design.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this product for anyone who wants to plane woods prone to tear out. This product is also great for flattening glue ups.

| ubaldc41's Full Review: Performax 16-32 Plus Drum Sander |
I have used this sander since Christmas(you can guess how I obtained it) and I have used it quite frequently since them. My first use was to sand down a 15 inch wide table top glue up made of red oak. It worked wonderfully. I did trip the overload on occasion but eventually I figured out an appropriate feed rate to minimize the problem. My next task was resurfacing some cherry boards that had tear out from my planer. The sander did a beautiful job. All my cherry will pass through this machine from now on.
I obtained (thanks to my ever attentive wife) this sander primarily to add a level of quality to my furniture that previously I could not achieve. I did also look at the Delta equivalent to this product, but in general I felt the reviews were better on the Performax.
What do I love about this machine? I can now glue up boards and the end result after several passes through this machine is a completely flat top ready for final sanding. What could be better than that?
A minor complaint. The plastic top that covers the drum could be a bit sturdier. You need to depress the latch to open the drum cover. This is done, at least for me, by loosening the latch and then pressing in on the cover. I doubt the cover will last the life of the unit.
