I have purchased pertussin DM faithfully each winter for over 20 years.
I know that the store brand has the same exact ingredients but this is one product that I don't want to mess with !
Pertussin DM stops the nagging cough from the common winter bug fast and for at least 4 hours, sometimes up to 8. I cannot take this product in the morning as it is sedating. I must wait until I have been up a few hours.
Whatever you do NEVER take more than the manufacturer's dosage instructions. The active ingredient is a synthetic narcotic with similar to codeine properties. This is something you won't find on the bottle.
I am aware that this product is becoming a drug of abuse for the DM side effects, so do not let your children take this unsupervised. Just type in Dextromethorphan and search on the net and you will find hundreds of articles about it's abuse and fatality rate when abused for its near narcotic effects.
I recommend this product for adults with a nagging cough from the common winter bug. DM acts differently in everyone so take your first dose at home in the evening. Please do not give children and teens free access to the product.
