About Me: Time for something new.

Do I enjoy Pete Rose's Ballpark Cafe? You can bet on it!

Written: Mar 05 '07 (Updated Mar 05 '07)
Pros:Wonderful food and service, reasonable prices.
Cons:None.
The Bottom Line: Bring your family - there's something here for everyone!

Pete Rose's Ballpark Café is a terrific place to go! Whether you're there for the great food with reasonable prices, or the arcade for the kids, or the wall-to-wall sports memorabilia, the large screen TV's, or the individual TV's in the booths, you're sure to enjoy the experience.

The Atmosphere & Service

Here, it's all about sports. And it's not just about Pete Rose and his incredible baseball career, although that's the bulk of the décor. But there's all kinds of general sports trivia, too.

There's a giant arcade for the kids. But it's situated a bit off the main dining room. This means two things. You won't be able to keep an eye on your kids while you're eating. But it also means that diners won't be disturbed by the noise of the arcade.

No matter where you're seated in the huge dining room, you'll be able to see several large screen TV's which of course are showing various sporting events. The volume is turned down on these TV's and most (but not all) have closed captioning so you can read what's being said. If you sit in a booth, you'll have your very own TV built right into the booth's inside wall. You can adjust the channel and volume to your liking, but they are set so that they can't play very loud. So you can't disturb your neighbors. You're even allowed to watch something other than sports! But, depending on what you choose, the waiter might give you a funny look. I'm just kidding - Pete's has some of the most friendly and professional service I've had the pleasure to enjoy.

The Food

Like any sports bar, you can get wings, nachos, potato skins, and chicken fingers. Pretty much any standard appetizer you'd like. That section of the menu is called "Starting Lineup".

There are also sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. All come with your choice of French Fries, chips, cole slaw, sweet potato fries, or fresh fruit. There are also a bunch of "Grand Slam Salads" from which to choose. The Gorgonzola Steak Salad is awesome - grilled sirloin atop salad greens, olives, gorgonzola cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms, and crisp onion straws. Topped with your choice of 7 dressings (I go for the Sweet Vidalia Onion), it's a meal in itself, and it's delicious.

But if meat's your thing, you can have chicken, pork chops, prime rib, pork ribs, Ribeye, or sirloin tips. My husband has enjoyed the "Fried Chicken Cordon Bleu". This is a chicken breast stuffed with ham and cheese, then lightly breaded and fried. All meat entrees are served with your choice of potatoes and vegetable. You can also have chicken, steak, or combo fajitas. Served sizzling, with onions, peppers, sour cream, salsa, cheese, and warm flour tortillas, this is one of my favorites.

If fish is more to your liking, try the mahi mahi, the salmon, the Shrimp Ramano (shrimp with spinach, tomatoes, and artichoke hearts), or the fried shrimp. You can also choose Fettucini Alfredo and have them add grilled shrimp - this is one of my favorites.

No matter what you choose, the food will be delicious, and the portion huge. With few items on the menu over $20, the value here is tremendous. I highly recommend stopping by next time you're in South Florida. It can be a bit crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but as the dining room is huge, the line moves fairly quickly. The wait has never been a problem for us.

Please note that there are two locations in South Florida - Boca Raton, and this one, in Boynton Beach.
