| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Pete's Strawberry Blonde |
Pete's Strawberry Blonde is like no other beer that I have sampled. It is not uncommon to find beers made with fruit, but it is unusual to find beer made with strawberries. I think that Pete's Brewing Company is the only well- known brewer that uses strawberries in one of its beers.
The aroma of Strawberry Blonde is distinctly strawberry, with some hints of wheat malt. When you taste the beer, you will notice that the flavor is not nearly as fruity as the aroma suggests. Instead, the taste is mostly malt, with less- emphasized taste of strawberries. You can still taste the strawberries, they just aren't as pronounced as the aroma indicates. The beer starts and finishes with a sweet taste. There is virtually no hop bitterness at all. The aftertaste reminded me of a bowl of Wheaties with a few slices of strawberries.
I can't think of any particular food that this would go best with. Sweet beers usually go best with sweet food, but because this beer is light bodied, it could be paired up with many different types of food.
Pete's Strawberry Blonde is an adventurous type of beer, very different from other products in the beer isle. Its sweetness makes it a safe beer to offer someone who doesn't normally drink beer. It has enough malt taste to satisfy lovers of true beer, and enough fruit flavor to satisfy those who do not like malty beer. I will probably stick to a more full bodied beer. This one is a little too light and too sweet for my taste. Still, if I was offered a bottle, I doubt I would turn it down.
