Pete's Wicked Ale is an American Brown ale, with a dark brown color and an aroma of freshly roasted malt. This is the original Pete's Brewing Company product and it ranks second only to Pete's Winter Brew as the best product in the Pete's lineup of beers.
I met Pete Slosberg, the company's founder, at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado, in October of 1998. As you probably guessed, Pete is a very convivial type of guy. He is friendly, cordial, and very particular about beer. His Wicked Ale is a testament to his strict standards of beer quality.
The initial flavor of Pete's Wicked ale is the taste of roasted malt, with a slight taste of chocolate. At first, this beer tastes sweet, but the hop bitterness balances out the taste into a smooth, somewhat creamy finish. The aftertaste is also one of roasted malt.
With its pronounced taste of roasted malt, Pete's Wicked Ale makes a delicious beverage to serve with chili, hamburgers, steak, and basically any food that is prepared on an open flame.
Pete's Wicked Ale is a very good representation of the brown ale style of beer. It starts and finishes with a flavorful, balanced taste of malt and cascade hops. Not too much malt, not too much hops, but just the right balance between the two. Pick up a six pack or two on during your next visit to the grocery store. Sure, it does cost 50 percent more than Budweiser. But it is 100 percent better.
