Pros: Steaks are supberb and melt in your mouth; one of a kind experience.
Cons: The atmosphere is nothing special but are we really going there for that?
The Bottom Line: I have two recommendations: Make a reservation 1-2 weeks in advance. Order the porterhouse steak.

| stephmonster's Full Review: Peter Luger Steak House |
Let me begin by saying that my husband works for the largest meat distributor in the country. They sell the highest quality meat to the finest steakhouses in New York City. Peter Luger Steakhouse is one of those companies that he deals with.
I am very fortunate to be able to cook these fine meats at home. I often call my husband on the phone and "put in my order" for filet mignon, standing rib roasts or porterhouse steaks. And just like that, we're cooking up this meat on the barbeque that night.
Because of his job, I have the opportunity to eat at some of the finest steakhouses in New York, and I can say with complete confidence that Peter Luger is by far the finest steakhouse in New York.
Peter Luger is located in the borough of Brooklyn and Great Neck, Long Island. I will focus on the Brooklyn location for this review. If you want to see some famous celebrities, the Brooklyn location is the place to go. Make sure you sit on the main floor while you discreetly stargaze! Don't go to Peter Luger looking for fine atmosphere. But afterall, people go to Peter Luger for the steak, not the atmosphere.
The Brooklyn location has two levels. Be sure to make your reservations at least 1-2 weeks in advance and longer for holidays.
Please be sure to bring cash to Peter Luger. They do not accept credit cards unless it is their own Peter Luger card. Personal checks are also accepted.
Everything on the Peter Luger menu is a la carte. You will pay an additional price for each side dish, salad, desert, etc. The portions of the side dishes are abundant in size and you will not be disappointed. Some of the selections include mashed potatoes. They are like none you have ever tasted. Creamy and smooth with the homemade taste that is rare to find.
Peter Luger offers a variety of cuts of meat. I recommend the Porterhouse Steak. It is the fattiest of all cuts, but the saying goes, "No waste, No taste." The steaks are dry aged and cooked to perfection. If you request medium, you will receive a medium steak that is juicy and just sligtly pink in the center.
If steak is not for you, you must try the 3 pound lobster. It is like no other lobster you have had before. Living in New York, I have access to City Island, which is known for their lobsters. And you know what? There is just no comparison. Not only does Peter Luger do steaks, but their ability to cook a lobster so that is is neither overcooked or undercooked is exceptional.
Be prepared to pay for this magnificent dining experience. A steak will cost a minimum of $30. If there is a special occasion and you will like to splurge, why not do it at a place where you know you will not be disappointed?
Let me add, even though I am able to cook the steaks that Peter Luger uses in their restaurants at home, Peter Luger does something so special to their steaks that there is no way this process can be reproduced. I wish I knew the secret!
If you are unable to make it to Brooklyn, Peter Luger does have a wonderful mail order service that will allow you to experience this fine meat at home.
