Peter Luger Steak House is no ordinary Steak House. It is the king of all steak houses. This is the Steak house that people from all around the world go to. This is the Steak House that other steak house owners go to. This restaurant has been in the same place for over one hundred and thirty years. That’s one hundred and thirty years of steak making experience folks!
Ambiance
Situated in a Brooklyn neighborhood, Peter Lugers is a very hard place to find. Once inside, all you will see it a nice old bar with an old bartender. There is a room straight ahead with people at every seat and a room to the right with people on every seat. The place is completely decked with wood and the furniture is comfortable with large chairs and tables. Every now and then you will see old waiters walking up and down with copious amounts of T-bone steak.
The Steak
All they serve here is Steak. On Monday – Friday they serve variations of steak with sandwiches and stuff for lunch. Other than that its just T bone steak that’s rare, medium or well done. Ask for the well done and you are committing murder! The waiters frown upon you!
Preparing for a meal here is a big thing. The best time to go is for lunch and eat a steak. So this means no breakfast and starve your self the previous night! After the meal just find a nice bed and go to bed cause you will be so stuffed that sleep is all you can do.
So when I was there (my friend’s family, and me) we ordered three steaks, medium cooked. We waited and waited at our lovely table and were watching the other people get their orders. With every passing slice of meat all I could do was droll. They however have some of the best breads that they keep filling you up with while you wait and some beautiful steak sauce.
So finally the Steak arrived. Oh my wonderful God! It was beautiful. They served it to us all cut and perfect. Those three steaks could have fed an army! So I started to eat. The meat was so tender that it melted like butter in my mouth. The flavor of the steak was beautiful. The medium done meat was juicy and a little chewy. It was a perfect marriage between the meat and sauce. It took us a good two hours to eat our way through the steaks.
At the end of it all we were so full that we couldn’t eat another bite. That was till the desserts arrived! They served us some simple ice cream and chocolate sauce. Man was that ice cream the creamiest ice cream I have eaten! It was a perfect end to a perfect meal.
The Verdict
Need I say more to convince you? But here are some things you need to remember and know. You cannot get tables without a two-month advance reservation. Peter Lugers also does not accept any credit cards except their own. They are strictly cash only business. Yeah, and don’t expect it to be on the lighter side cause a family of four can run up a bill of a lot of hundreds! So eat be happy and be merry cause this is one steak that’s worth all the calories and the money!!!
