Every time we visit Disneyland, the longest lines in Fantasyland are at Peter Pan's Flight. The lines are for a reason. Of all the preschool rides, this one combines some great elements: pirates, peter pan and ride vehicles that appear to fly. I know my kids really like it and this is my favorite ride in Fantasyland too.
THE WAIT
As I mentioned, this ride usually has the longest waits in Fantasyland. It is always the first ride my kids request to go on and it seems that it must be a top choice for a lot of families. If you or your kids are interested in this ride, consider making it your first stop of the morning or waiting until closer to the park closing when most of the preschoolers have gone home.
Like the other Fantasyland rides, this line snakes around the outside of the attraction first. You are forced into a single file line and are separated from other guests by chains instead of railings. Eventually, you get into the building and wait another ten minutes or so in another snaking line inside the building. As you get closer to the front of the line, you can see the vehicles load and unload.
BOARDING
There are no height restrictions on this ride. You ride in a boat with a large sail in front of you. The ride vehicle tightly seats three people across or two adults comfortably. When we boarded, the ride attendant insisted that my five year old sit between my eight year old and me. That kind of bummed me out because most of the scenery on this ride is actually below the ride vehicle. I thought he would get a better view if he could peer over the side but I guess that wasn't to be. There is a safety bar that comes down over your lap to keep you in the vehicle. I suppose a child could get out of the vehicle even with the bar and fall but it would take some determination and wiggling to do it.
THE RIDE
There are no height restrictions on this ride. Most Fantasyland rides are in cars that follow a track. Peter Pan's Flight is unique because the ride vehicle is suspended from an overhead track. This gives you the feeling that you are flying. Even cooler is that the ride vehicle does some dips and turns so you see things from different levels and it gives an even greater feeling of flying.
The ride starts in the nursery and you quickly swoop out of the room and "fly" over London. Below your ride vehicle is a miniture London that looks as though you are very high up - the same view you would see from a low flying plane. Miniture cars move on streets and you can see the lights in the tiny houses. I can see how this feeling thrills kids - you really feel high up but the ride is very gentle.
Your car flys away from London and over Never Never Land. You see a volcano, Indians, and mermaids. Then you swoop down to see Peter Pan having a sword fight with Captain Hook while Wendy shivers on the plank. Finally, you see Captain Hook in the mouth of the crocodile.
The scenes in Peter Pan's Flight are really unique and clever. They are detailed and very interesting to look at. Sure, Disney cut some corners here and there, but the unique perspective of "flying" and looking down on things makes up for a lot and swooping through the sword fight scene is thrilling.
RECOMMENDATION
This is definitely a must-see ride in Disneyland for kids and adults. I highly recommend it.
